Brynn’s nights are interrupted by the appearance of a being who lusts for her in many ways. The teasing and suggestiveness of his actions grows over time until finally she comes face with him and it isn’t in her dreams. A moment of passion, a claim made, and Brynn finds that she is the favourite of an incubus and all that means.

As the opening work in a series, the story tells quite a lot about Brynn, her life, what she has experienced and what her thoughts are. As that part of the story is told, there is a hint that something else is happening around her and it is that mystery which Brynn finds herself puzzling over and then being ensnared by.

I found that in telling Brynn’s story in the way it was, there was a real connection made with her. In her thoughts came her truths, in her experiences with the incubus there are hints of what she finds arousing and then when she finds release, it is told in a way that is very hot and sensual. The author has a lovely way with telling the moments in which Brynn submits to the incubus, but at the same time there are reflection of her concerns and fears which also makes the story better overall.

The incubus himself is never named, but his description makes it clear that he isn’t stereotypical in appearance which is good to see. He is dominant, there is no question of that, he has an otherworldly aspect to him that makes him more than what might be expected of him. There’s a certain tone in his character that is different, intriguing, and in being so that adds a lot to what otherwise could have been a simple hot flash with nothing else within it.

Story is very strong in this work and being that it is the first work in a series, it has to be so. The story leads seamlessly into the erotica and then, once the heat passes and the ending of the story approaches, the story returns in strength. The ending isn’t abrupt or feels out of place. It is very much an aspect of Brynn’s personality and in being so it tells of where the series goes from here.

But there hasn’t been a continuation of the series and that’s more the shame here. There is a really captivating mystery here, to explain why Brynn is so attractive to the incubus. To tell the story of the incubus and what the hints he has given so far mean overall. There are some really well constructed plots to carry onwards and it would be really nice to see that happen.

There are a few points at which the author needs to edit things, a few misused words, one or two spelling mistakes, but overall nothing that took away from how good the overall work reads and how much anticipation it give with what would come next.

I’ll give this work four out of five pitchforks.

Really an excellent beginning to a series with two very well thought out and told characters. A lot of mystery to unfold, a story that holds up quite well. It is a shame that the “coming soon” note by the author at the end of the work has not transpired as yet.

Perhaps it will and the rest of the story can be told…
