			Melas has lost more than her memories and with that loss comes questions she cannot answer or find the means to ask. Trust is a very precious thing and when that is given, she must choose to accept or fight her demons alone.

			The work is a fantasy/mystery for the most part, with a great deal of development in the characters that inhibit the work. Melas is exceptionally complicated, but that provides a lot of opportunity for those around her to come to an understanding about themselves and Melas herself. It’s a very long path to follow, but the resulting passions and revelations are wonderfully told and quite enjoyable.

			Orren, the incubus of the work, tends to be the central character in trying to sort out Melas and that does bring him to question himself and his purpose in some interesting ways. While he is an incubus, the story doesn’t give too much form to erotica with him, or the story as a whole. It’s really not the point of the work and setting aside that aspect I think makes Orren a far better character overall.

			The work is complex, there are a lot of minor characters that pop in and out which, for the most part, drive the story onwards. It’s occasionally when they exist only to show the power hidden within Melas that the story gave me pause. Still, they are interesting and not one-dimensional which means there is a good deal of story that comes with them that was delightful.

			It isn’t an incubus story as a whole, though Orren is a good part of it. Following everything that Melas goes through does become complicated and perhaps too much so. Still, it is the first work in the series and there’s a lot to tell. Hopefully the series as it goes on will delve more into the background of Orren and the others around Melas in time.

			Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

			Well written with a complex story that was appealing from the beginning. There’s a lot to unpack with Melas and going forward that will be the source of a lot of good storytelling. I’ll be looking for the next work, soon to appear, and I expect the author will continue this marvelous storytelling going forwards.
