Riley’s life has taken a turn she never expected. A night with Zarah reveals a world she never knew existed with its thrills, passions and lust, but also its fears, dangers and temptations. The work has a fully formed plot through which quite a lot is revealed about Riley, her friends, the group that has plans for Zarah, but Zarah herself really doesn’t have much story to tell. There are hints about her, some of her background is told, but there are some important parts of the story that aren’t explored. The largest one of all is how Zarah became a succubus in the first place, how she came to be where she is. There’s more focus on her abilities as a succubus, her futa nature, the sexual needs she has and her dominant nature. In spite of all that is told about her, there are quite a few spots at which some sort of reveal about her would have explained why things happened as they did.
The story isn’t so much about Zarah herself as it is about Riley’s life around her, the things that Riley experiences. Zarah is a reason for the story, a means for Riley’s sexual awakening and growth of her character. There are some moments when Zarah is something more than a very dominant being, actually expressing something more than a “hard ass” personality, but overall, that’s rarely seen.
Zarah has a cold, demanding side which takes up much of the story. At some points she’s a little too over the top, a bit too stereotypically domme in her actions and nature. The erotica has some moments of heat in various couplings and themes. The mixture works well and allows for several characters to each have their moment, have meaning to them. Personally I thought that Zarah’s almost constant tone of voice and belittling of her partners didn’t work for me, but then she is a succubus and her inherent powers overcome any issues that might have caused with her lovers.
Through the work, there is a quest for Zarah, which brings her and Riley and their friends into conflict with someone that has discovered magic, its powers and that there’s something about Zarah which they want to control. That brings in some mind control themes to the story, but they are vaguely there, aren’t really used very much and, as with Zarah herself, those themes are not delved into, being used to push the story on at needed moments, then cast aside once more.
As a coming of age story about Riley, the work shines in how that story is told. But as a story about succubi, specifically Zarah, it’s lacking in a lot of ways. I dearly would have liked more development of Zarah’s character, more time spent in making her relationships more than a passing thing, which happened a lot in the story.
The ending closed some plots, but it was too quick, it lacked some closure and the promise made by Zarah is left open and a question. There is development of Riley and others, but for Zarah, she’s much as she was at the beginning of the work. A shadow, between moment of passion, lost in her own way.
The author taking their stories into a longer form helped quite a lot, overall I think this is the best of the author’s works I have read. But there is still a need for more backstory, more focus on the characters themselves over the erotica. As well, more heat to the erotica would add a lot as well. But most of all, telling a story, as happened here, makes the greatest difference of all.

There’s really not a lot told about Zarah, and that was the singular disappointment here. Leaving out her past, telling of the succubus that changed her is a story needing to be told. A flashback would have been nice, something to fill in the blanks. That said, Zarah is a force onto herself and I thought she was one of the more unique succubi that this author has written. In the same way, being a long work with plot and development made this really something special.

Plot Summary
Riley is a smart, flirtatious, server at a Santa Monica beach bar. She gets jealous when Zarah, a visiting musician, has her way with Riley’s work crush right before her eyes. Riley finds herself strangely attracted to Zarah’s supernatural sensuality, and Zarah invites her to her bed. But Zarah is anything but normal. She shows her wings, her futanari nature, and has her way with Riley all night long.
Riley loves it and can’t get enough. But the next afternoon Zarah is violated: a wanna-be warlock has stolen her cherished guitar! After another raging hot encounter with Riley, the two women work a plot of lesbian seduction to track it down. Riley will have her legs around her work crush, seduce an old girlfriend, and submit before her futanari succubus lover before the guitar -and Zarah- are safe once again.
