Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 7, 2024

It’s impossible to know when love happens and whom that love and desire is. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and see what happens, no matter what that voice tells you. Sometimes happiness is a word, a smile, and a hope. One should never give up hope.

The work is a slow burn piece of erotica focused on the two main characters trying to figure themselves and each other out and see where that takes them. The heat simmers throughout, the entanglements are delightful in their passions and overall it’s a lovely read.

The succubus of the work, Sirella, is partly succubus and partly a siren which is really interesting as that combination could provide some depth to her back story, her fears and past, and what happens when her succubus nature and siren abilities come out fully. However, while that’s noted during the story, it doesn’t really come out in the storytelling other than to explain, in a way, her sexual hunger.

The work is more about the first encounter and what comes from that between the main characters. The focus is on getting them together and seeing where they, and two others, end up by the climax. Sirella being a succubus and siren sort of gets glossed over, which really was a shame. Exploring that part of her nature, even if only in flashbacks of her past, would have added something to the work that’s missing for me. It’s not a question of setting the balance of the work to the side, it’s more to explain Sirella’s character and why she acts as she does in the beginning. I really wish it had.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

While Sirella is partly a succubus in this story, that really doesn’t have any real meaningful purpose otherwise. It’s a lovely story, the characters are really interesting and how things play out works delightfully. But there’s a lack of any real succubus themes save in passing which is a shame as the combination of succubus and siren would have been interesting to explore.
