Evangelina is a soul lost within herself, as if there is a piece of her missing which would answer why things turn out as they did for her. A trip to an island reveals the truth, within her is the succubus Eva, her incubus loved Aden, and a curse that has kept them apart for far too long.
The work is an erotic hot flash centred on the main character discovering the truth about herself, about the succubus trapped within her, and the incubus lover through which the curse is broken. It’s quite emotionally driven, the heat in the erotica simmers throughout the story, becoming a dire need by the close. It’s also very much a mystery that takes a long time to be unraveled and find the truth as well.
At the same time, the feeling of loss, despair and ache pulls at the story, taking away from the passion and mixing in the sense of loss that at times takes over the characters and leaves something like wreckage behind. It very much pulls at the heartstrings and takes the story off in some odd directions at the same tim.
The succubus of the work, Eva, is something of a shadow within the main character Evangelina. They are two minds in one body which creates an interesting pat for the story to take. Aden, the incubus of the work, is very much a sexual being but also desires his soulmate and so the two, really three, characters dance around the issues. As for them being succubi and incubi, they aren’t evil or stereotypical, but as for their powers or forms, that’s shaded into the background of the story for the most part. It’s a missing part for me at least.
I’m actually very glad the author didn’t take the easy path with Evangelina and Eva, that would have been so dearly disapponting to have one sacrificed for the other. Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
