Plot Summary
Deep in the northern forests of ancient Scandinavia, a young huldra—a succubus-like being—encounters a human man for the first time. The chance meeting triggers a hunger and a physical transformation that she does not at first understand. Realizing that she is in the midst of her First Hunt, a rite of passage among her people, the young huldra embraces her true nature. All must face their first hunt and the events that unfold. But hunts are complicated, messy, and at times the reality is that you cannot see the path before you.
The work is a complex and fascinating tale of the first hunt of a Huldra, a Scandinavian myth similar to that of a succubus, those she encounters, her family and her kinds enemies. It’s something between a fantasy adventure with a bit of erotic heat here and there, but that is very much muted for the rest of the story.
Being set in the very distant past, there are some odd moments and tangents taken which add a bit of a stylized flavour and brings out a tone which is very much different from that of most stories about succubi.
