The work is a mystery horror story wrapped in a possession theme and a bit of an erotic edge. Written well, the characters are interesting, the plot has some moments as well. Marduk, the evil presence of the story, has aspects of an incubus but at the same time they aren’t quite one. As an incubus story, there are aspects of it to be found, but with the said, the possession themes are far more central and important to the story. Setting him aside, the story is interesting, but a better foil for the main characters to confront would have added a lot I think. | |||

Darkness comes at night in many forms and for Evie that darkness is seeking to claim herself and the soul of the man that asked for her help. Evil comes in many forms and by the night’s fall, she will discover the truth of that.
The work is a mystery horror story wrapped in a possession theme and a bit of an erotic edge. Written well, the characters are interesting, the plot has some moments as well. The dialogue however is a bit rough around the edges and another editing pass I think would have improved the story and possibly allowed for the characters to develop more overall.
Marduk, the evil presence of the story, has aspects of an incubus but at the same time they aren’t quite one. They are driven towards sex, and it is sex that is very much forced and not that erotic overall. He’s more of a means to an end, and otherwise his nature is left unexplored and a mystery to which there are really no good answers.
Three out of five pitchforks.
As an incubus story, there are aspects of it to be found, but with the said, the possession themes are far more central and important to the story. Marduk, whether a demon, incubus or something else just didn’t interest me for how expected a character he was. Setting him aside, the story is interesting, but a better foil for the main characters to confront would have added a lot I think.
