The succubus, who is never named, is very much a evil creature wrapped in a seductive and dominating presence. Her personality is that of a harsh domme and as that comes into play and she appears to the main character, there’s a point where she became stereotypical and a bit over the top for me. That is a shame because the seduction and entrapment works really well and carries the story with it throughout.

More an entrapment hidden by a rather blunt seduction, the work rushes through the story and by the end it felt like a lot was glossed over and that’s a shame. It’s also a shame the succubus is never given a name, is very much a shadow in the story to the end as well. As for the ending, it’s rather dark and honestly expected with how everything unfolded. It would have been nice to explore the characters and develop them more as well as that feels like it was missing at times.

Plot Summary

Jared had heard the rumors, but he didn't care. The old, creepy apartment was cheap and he couldn't resist signing the lease. But as he settles into his new home, he senses something off. Strange whispers echo through the halls at night, and fleeting shadows move at the corners of his vision. Unsettling missing person posters adorn a coffee shop down the street, each one a chilling reminder of those who vanished from the same building where he resides.

Jared stumbles upon a hidden rug that conceals a sinister red symbol. Beneath the floorboards lies a dusty book filled with ancient spells, each page crackling with untamed energy. A casual incantation spirals into chaos, unleashing a captivating succubus whose charm is equal parts mesmerizing and perilous. Jared is quickly caught in a dangerous game of desire and dread. Can he resist the allure of her presence, or will her hunger consume him before he finds a way to banish her back to the shadows?

A new place to call home brings with it a mystery for Jared to unravel. The past is filled with lost souls and when he discovers the truth, it might be far too late. One cannot escape a trap of one’s own making after all.

The work is a mixture of fantasy and horror with a succubus entrapment which slowly builds throughout. It’s quite dark overall, the mystery from the start telegraphs the ending and while it is very much a page turner, it’s also written such that the story races towards the ending. While there are some erotic passages, they hint and tease for the most part until the latter part of the story and the closing pages.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
