Satanika is a fictional comic book character created by Glenn Danzig that first appeared in Satanika #0. Satanika was described as a demoness with some succubus-like aspects, but generally did not have a true succubus aspect to her. Through the series Satanika indulged in her sexual appetites and attracted a wide variety of attention from other demons and angels which eventually brought about her downfall.
Description
Satanika was drawn as a tall slender female demoness with long white hair, purple bat wings and ram's horns. Instead of normal human feet she was given demon hooves instead. While this was her most common form, different artists took liberties with her aspects and some variations in hair and wing colour occurred during the series run. However she was rarely shown wearing any clothing of any kind during the series.
Biography
Satanika is the daughter of the demon Dalkiel. She was born into Hell without an idea where she was, or who she was exactly. Hunted down by her own father, she was forced to defend herself in order to survive. Indulging in her sexual appetites, she attracted a wide variety of attention from other demons, and her father makes the decision to send his lieutenants after her.
Eventually she travels into the world, and finds herself confronted by various supernatural beings, including angels, whom she battles to remain alive.
In the end, her battles are in vain and her seeming death occurs in Verotik Illustrated #3, where she comes to a bloody end. She did return to make other appearances several years later, the last being in a 2009 Halloween special one-shot issue entitled Morella presents Verotika Returns published by Verotik.
Powers and Abilities
Satanika's powers were not completely explored in her appearances, but she did have the power of flight through her wings, great strength and some minor mind control abilities. In most of her stories, conflict with her enemies resulted in battles of strength rather than sexual ones. When in battle her fingernails would extend and act in a manner similar to knives when she attacked.
Publication History
The series was published by Verotik from February 1996 - May 1999 and with other one-shot appearances, Satanika appeared in 24 different issues under the Verotik banner.
In 2003, an animated short was produced by Verotik which can be found on YouTube [1] that gave some of her background and was intended as a video that took a look behind the scenes as Satanika was brought to life on the big screen. While it acted as an introduction to a longer movie, it was not completed and this short is all that remains of that work.
In 2008, it was revealed that Glenn Danzig had directed a short live action film called She Only Likes Men which was based on the story in issue nine of the Satanika comic book series. From the information on the Verotik website, it was unclear if the short was completed or was available for viewing although a series of images from the production were available on the site.
In 2009, an announcement on the Verotik website indicated that a live-action movie based on the Satanika comic series was in production. It was to be directed by Thomas Mignone and the announcement indicated that it was in pre-production at that time, but further information on the production was not revealed after that announcement.[2]
