Lynnara will not sacrifice herself for anyone but Malcanthet, and if in danger, she will attempt to flee by teleporting to safety.

She made a second appearance in the Into the Maw adventure written by Robert J. Schwalb and published in Dungeon magazine issue 147.

In her first appearance, Lynnara was one of a group of alu-fiends that were under the command of a marilith named Lillianth and served under her. In her second incarnation, Lynnara appeared to be a lover of another NPC. Character Information

Night Below: An Underdark Campaign

Players encounter Lynnara when they come into contact with a marilith named Lillianth. She is accompanied by two alu-fiends, Janelle and Villiane, and Lynnara. Depending on the player's actions before encountering Lynnara, she has disguised herself as a stunningly beautiful enchantress of about 22 with long, curly blond tresses which reach almost to the base of her spine. She will not speak, pretending to be under a vow of silence, but if not treated well by the players will attempt to flirt with and tempt player characters until they fall to her charms.

In the event of a battle, Lynnara will shift into her true form and fight using all of her abilities. She will not, however, have the ability to gate away from a fight as that ability has been taken away from her, Lillianth, Janelle and Villiane. Considering the situation that Lynnara finds herself in, being in exile with Lillianth, she would rather gain the assistance, if not trust of the players in a bid to complete their mission and return to the Abyss.

Into the Maw

Players encounter Lynnara when they enter the private lounge of Lynnara's so-called lover Lillianth. There are two possible ways that Lynnara will appear, depending on the player's actions before encountering her.

If she is not aware of the players, then she will appear in her true Succubus form, lounging in one mound of cushions. According to the adventure background, her lover Lillianth is searching for a traitor in her midst, and that traitor is, in fact, Lynnara herself. Lynnara, while appearing to be a devoted lover of Lillianth's is in fact a devoted agent of Malcanthet, Queen of Succubi. She was ordered to insinuate herself into Lillianth's life so that Malcanthet would know of any missions that Lillianth was sent on by Graz'zt, one of Malcanthet's greatest enemies, and of late, also to inform her of any orders from Demogorgon as well.

Events are complicated slightly in that Malcanthet has not revealed to Lynnara that she suspects that Demogorgon is preparing an action that could restructure the Abyss. Lynnara was informed however to be aware of a group of Material Plane agents that would be arriving, and that they are to be assisted without revealing Lynnara's allegiance to the Queen of Succubi.

Should Lynnara be aware of the players, when they enter the lounge, she will have cloaked herself as a wizened old gnome, claiming to be Nurt Bilgeflower, a planar navigator whom Lynnara tormented and then killed.

If the players fall for Lynnara's ruse she claims to be enslaved by Lillianth, and cowers in terror at even the mention of Lillianth's name and she will not leave the room they find her in unless Lillianth is killed. If Lillianth is killed then Lynnara will accompany players on the rest of the adventure, remaining in the background during battles and playing the role of a non-combatant frightened gnome expert. Her plan in this case is to watch the players and give regular reports to Malcanthet on their progress, and guide them towards certain goals that are in the best interest of Malcanthet.

If she is found out, then Lynnara will flee. If she escapes, she could become a recurring temptress throughout the rest of the adventure as she tries again and again to influence the party into unknowingly doing Malcanthet's will. If they discover her trickery before they leave, she will flee to Lillianth's side, hoping to lure the players into a fight that is more one-sided against the players.

In general, Lynnara does not turn to battle herself easily, her usual choice is to summon allies to defend her while she uses her bardic music and spells to assist them in battle. If she is forced to fight, then she will try to strike before any deceived allies realize she's turned on them so she can gain full advantage of sneak attack and betrayal. She uses Arcane Strike to bolster her melee attacks and damage, sacrificing her highest level spells first. Given the opportunity, she will use charm monster or dominate person to magically compel a creature, then attack to use betrayal and sneak attack. Lynnara will not sacrifice herself for anyone but Malcanthet, and if in danger, she will attempt to flee by teleporting to safety.

Statistics

Night Below: An Underdark Campaign

Lynnara has disguised herself as a stunningly beautiful enchantress of about 22. She has long, curly blond tresses which reach almost to the base of her spine. She wears a silk cloak and flimsy dress of midnight blue edged with silver and black (value 2,800 gp) and sports a matching set of neck choker and earrings of platinum set with black opals and peridots (value 5,400 gp for the set). She pretends to be under a vow of silence and merely smiles mysteriously at characters if addressed. Lynnara is staggeringly vain (although with good reason) and expects a steady stream of complements. So long as these are forthcoming, all will be well; if they are withheld for any reason, she will begin flirting with, and tempting, player characters until they respond with suitable attentions.

  • Draining Kiss (Su): Three times per day, Lynnara's energy drain can inflict 2 negative levels rather than 1.
  • Dominating Voice (Su): Lynnara gains a +8 competence bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks and a +2 profane bonus to the save DC of any language-dependent spell she casts.
  • Profane Beauty (Su): Lynnara gains a deflection bonus to her Armor Class equal to her Charisma bonus (maximum bonus equal to her thrall of Malcanthet level).
  • Reflect Enchantment (Ex): Three times per day, when Lynnara makes her saving throw to resist any enchantment spell, she may reflexively reflect that spell back at its source, as if she had cast the spell on the target.
  • Telepathic Gaze (Ex): Lynnara can read the surface thoughts of any creature that meets her gaze as if she had cast detect thoughts and concentrated on the target for 3 rounds. The target can attempt to resist this gaze by making a DC 31 Will save. If Lynnara reads someone's thoughts, she gains a +5 circumstance bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidate checks made against that opponent.

Notes: Arcane Strike allows Lynnara to sacrifice a spell as a free action to gain a bonus on her attack rolls equal to the level of the spell sacrificed and a bonus on weapon damage rolls equal to 1d4 points x the level of the spell sacrificed. Practiced Spellcaster increases her effective caster level for bard spells by +4. Thrall to Demon allows her to gain a +1 luck bonus on any one roll while performing an evil act. Several of Lynnara's spells can be substituted with other similar spells. Replace critical strike with cure light wounds, entice gift with hold person, love's lament with confusion, ruin delver's fortune with modify memory, and whirling blade with cure moderate wounds.
