Plot Summary
In a world where demons live in hiding among humans, Adeline Pond finds herself in a bit of a bind. Locked out of dreamland, she’s looking for a way to feed without draining humans dry. With her love of baking, Adie may have found her solution. Open a bakery! The joy of sweet treats is the perfect recipe for a demon like her.
But a chance encounter may halt her plans before they start to rise. Somehow, Adie has drawn the attention of three sexy demons, and they offer her one hell of a bargain.
Join Adie on her (mis)adventures toward achieving a quasi-normal life among humans.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 18, 2017
Adie has a dream and it’s one that simply isn’t expected of a succubus. Adie wants to open a bakery. There’s a good reason for that, not that it would solve her problem of feeding however. Baking is Adie’s passion and she loves her craft dearly.
Adeline is one of the very rare succubus characters who I adore from the first moment they appear. She’s smart, knows who she is and what matters to her. She’s a bit brisk at times, but that’s part of who she is and being so there’s no question that she doesn’t want to be what other succubi are and isn’t afraid to say so. It’s also delightful that some of her physical aspects aren’t what most succubi possess, most attractively for me, her wings have feathers, which is just so dearly appealing to me. Adeline is anything but stereotypical and as the story unfolds it’s clear that the series isn’t going to be disappointing overall.
There isn’t really that much erotica to speak of in the first work and honestly there’s no need. This is about Adeline’s dreams, her trying to make them happen. That’s a strong story on its own and how the author tells that story means while there’s a few little encounters, they are there to drive the story forwards and not take away from it. The balance works, there’s delight in Adeline’s thoughts and even when her doubts creep in and trouble her, there’s a strength within Adeline that just made me smile.
While Adeline is wonderful, most of the supporting characters didn’t appeal to me in the same way. Some of that comes from their personality, or how they see Adeline, which sets up the story in many ways. That said, there’s a critical point in the story where things need not have turned out as they did if only the two characters confronting Adeline would have approached things differently. Again, that’s part of the story and it works, but it didn’t feel right through much of it and that bothered me.
Still, there’s so much promise in this work that I can get past the things that trip me up for the joy of Adeline’s story. It’s that core story, the quest for her own desires, that held me throughout and I loved most of all. Adeline is amazing and I really want to see where the story takes her. My only fear is that, if things go in the direction I think they will, the story may drift towards more erotica than story, which would be a shame. A wonderful story, promising much going forwards and that is really appealing.
I dearly love Adeline, and that’s not just because there’s a certain Queen of the Succubi that enjoys baking either. She’s a delight, her character is wonderful and I simply love her attitude, her focus but most of all, she’s just a wonderful succubus by far.
Four out of five pitchforks.
The next work in the series, The Deal, is scheduled for release in the beginning of July and I’m really looking forward to that. I’ll hope there’s something more interesting about the demons Adeline has encountered and that, most of all, her hopes and dreams come to be. That story need not be overwhelmingly erotic, it simply needs to tell Adeline’s story and I think it will.
