Brooke isn’t having the best of days. If it isn’t the migraine she’s suffering through, it’s her mother telling her that she might not be human, because her father wasn’t. The coming of age of a demoness is inevitable, Brooke will never be the same, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be alone.

The work is mainly a slow work of transformation, both succubus and futa, which takes its time to get from the moment things begin to a point where the effects of Brooke’s past catch up to her. There’s very little in the way of erotica, and really there’s little within the story to push things in that direction.

There’s a lot of self-exploration, both mentally and physically for Brooke, who does not actually become fully a succubus in this work. While the first inklings of her change appear, and in a way that really doesn’t happen often in such works, it doesn’t drive the story forward in a rush.

This is very much about Brooke trying to come to terms with her migraine, finding out that it’s more than that, and then dealing with the legacy her father left her. There’s a good deal of growth in her character beyond what she is dealing with, but there’s also a lot of disbelief as well. This all makes the story something of an internal conflict for her to deal with.

The work is written well, the character personalities are very strong and tell their stories in their own time. It does drag a bit on occasion, there are some odd moments in which perhaps the story is lost and trying to find its way. The overriding thing however is that there’s very little actual succubi themes so far, but they are hinted at very strongly.

It’s not really that much of a succubus story overall so far. There’s a starting point, there’s hints of what will be, but nothing really moves the story from being a basic transformation story towards more of a succubus one. Hopefully the next part of the series will bring some reflection, some changes and, most of all, some sort of direction for the story to take going forwards.

Plot Summary

Brooke's headaches are only the first sign something's wrong. She's just found out the father she never knew was a demon, and her body is changing now that she's reached maturity. It's a shock when a pair of horns grow from her head, a bigger one when a new appendage sprouts between her legs. She has her girlfriend's support, but how exactly is she supposed to break the news about her new body?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 24, 2022

Three out of five pitchforks.
