Plot Summary
The Twisted Carnival, a sanctuary for the strange, the wicked, and the damned. A world where darkness isn’t just part of the show — it’s survival.
For me and my brother Aidan, it’s the only home we’ve ever known. The only place he’s safe from humans who would tear him apart if they knew that when night falls, the demon inside Aiden steps into his skin. That he's possessed by a creature of sin and shadow, an incubus driven by hunger.
Every night, he corners me with that wicked smile and those burning eyes and reminds me that I’m his. His to touch, his to ruin, his to protect. He threatens to hurt Aidan if I refuse to submit. I should hate him, fight him, run. But I can’t. Because when he’s near me, he's all I crave. His touch ignites something primal and desperate, something I’ve buried for so long.
But Warrick’s obsession is more than mere desire. He tells me I’m his mate. The one thing tying him to this world. The reason he exists at all. I don’t want to believe him, but the way he watches me, the way he burns for me, terrifies and thrills me all at once.
When Aidan and I uncover the truth about the carnival, about Warrick, and about Mama’s twisted betrayal, the fragile world we’ve clung to collapses. Everything we’ve ever known is a lie. And the truth? It just might tear us apart.

The problem with the past is that we never remember it correctly, or if we do it’s not what we want to believe. But the past cannot be hidden forever, the truth will come out, and in the end someone will have to suffer the truth to be free.
The work is a very complicated fantasy fetish romance with a good deal of supernatural themes mixed in. All of the characters are very completed and so very lost within themselves and what they are going through. At times the mystery of what and why things are takes over, which I thought was really well done by far. At other times the erotic turns towards domination themes and the tone of those really didn’t work for me at least. I understand why things are presented as they are, it’s a matter of the character development that has to happen, but overall the scenes were too over-the-top for me, incubus focused or otherwise, and the story lost me at those points.
The character Aidan, who is possessed by an Incubus called Warwick is so very dearly complex and at the same time so very singularly focused. Very much a dominating incubus charcater with all of the physical aspects, Warwick from the start is eminently dislikable and it takes a very long time for the story to create the change in him that makes him, at least partly, more interesting. But his dominant nature just didn’t work for me in many ways and some of his personality and dialogue just made me shake my head and turn the page.
Three out of five pitchforks.
Overall, I found it rather difficult to find my way into the story and the characters themselves. At times a bit of a difficult read due to events, or the characters themselves. Sometimes a story doesn’t connect well, the reasons differ of course, but here the problem was, overall, the incubus themselves and how dislikable they were for the most part and by the time the story came to the conclusion I didn’t really find the enjoyment I’d been hoping for.
