Plot Summary

This series continues the adventures of the characters from the series "Succubus Temptations" collected in "Succubus Journey".

In this installment Kiki the vampire and Lorelei the dark elf sorceress implement their plan to take over Manhattan, at least the supernatural aspects of it.

These two beautiful dangerous woman as they wreak havoc through the greatest city in the world, in heels.

Kiki and Lorelei are off to see the Wizard. Well, actually they are off on a little bit of girl’s day out on the town, and that town is Manhattan. Of course it isn’t all about shopping for shoes, there’s a little matter of their wanting to take over things for themselves. But along the way things get a little complicated, and if one of them happens to break a heel, all hell will break loose.

This work focuses on the current whereabouts of Kiki and Lorelei, who left Kendra and the rest behind when they returned to their own world, and more specifically, Kiki’s home of Manhattan. Being that both Kiki and Lorelei are a little bit power hungry, that of course means the pair have a thought, and it’s one that comes with a lot of problems along the way.

There’s some wonderful interplay between Kiki and Lorelei, but it’s just as telling to see how Kiki interacts with others they meet along the way and what happens as a result. I’ll note that there is one character who’s love of books I adored and dearly so, who Kiki has wrapped around her finger and what happens along the way could be telling.

The story sets up the adventure to come, introduces some new characters, who bring along with them some telling moments for Lorelei. Listening to her thoughts as things happen told a lot about her, how she has changed, and, to a point, made her more “whole” as a character. As an aside, Lorelei’s To Do List was perfect, made complete sense, and I do have to agree with one of the points quite strongly, though I might have pushed it from #2 to number #1. It’s a rather important thing when style matters after all.

There’s a little bit of teasing sexuality in the work, but it doesn’t force itself into the story, or take away from what’s happening otherwise. The point is to set up what’s coming next, to explain things and then put the show on the road as it were. I think it does so well overall, though I would have liked a little bit more story about Lorelei thinking about what’s going on rather that reacting to things at times. Much of that comes from those she encounters, who don’t care to talk in the first place.

I found myself wondering what’s happened between their leaving Kendra in the last series and where they are now as well. I wonder about Lorelei going out on the town alone, or going to Kiki’s club or similar. There’s a story there I think and I find it nibbling at my thoughts as I was reading this work.

There are a scattering of minor spelling mistakes, nothing that takes away from the story. Really the thing that I liked the most was simply Kiki and Lorelei themselves, how they played off each other and the thoughts that Lorelei had while Kiki was “doing her thing.” Having an amused smile is never bad, and I did.

Four out of five pitchforks.

I like seeing what’s going on with Kiki and Lorelei, to find some closure to a plot point in the previous series, but I think that’s not going to come easily or quickly. I do think there will be a lot of moments, both fun and tense, that will tell a story. Not so much about the taking over of Manhattan, but rather how the relationship between Kiki and Lorelei might, and probably will, change.

And it is that development, that promise, that I enjoy most of all.
