It’s a shame the demoness of the story was never given a name, or her character explored much more than it was. As for the sort-of succubus, it would have been nice to at least give her a name.

Plot Summary

Phil is a travelling contractor, specializing in remote, rural home renovations. His business model is somewhat unorthodox, but appealing to clients who want the work done fast: the client moves out while Phil moves in and works long sixteen hour days, sleeping on the site until the job is done.

He’s never had any issues before, even though he cuts the odd corner… until he takes on that old farmhouse. The farmhouse is different. Phil keeps hearing weird noises in the empty rooms, and his tools keep mysteriously vanishing, making the job take longer than it needs to.

At night, he can hear something—or someone—creeping around. One night, that mysterious entity gives Phil a warning: stop cutting corners, or pay the price.

Phil isn’t scared of ghosts, and he’s not going to let some spooky spectre bully him around. Though… maybe he would feel differently if he knew the entity wasn’t a ghost at all, but the demon niece of Satan, with the power to transform Phil into a woman with the snap of a finger.

Book Review

There are houses which have a story, some that contain a mystery, and some intend to teach a lesson whether wanted or not. Phil finds that the house he is working on has a presence that doesn’t like his work ethic and she’ll just have to teach him a lesson.

The work is mainly focused on gender transformation with a lesion taught along the way to the main character through the persistence of a succubus-like character. While there is a gender transformation from male to female and there are some light erotic moments as the story is told, it’s really not focused on the erotica. The story is about the succubus teaching the main character a lesson about themselves and where that takes them.

It’s an interesting story in that respect, the characters in the work have depth and presence and that works well to connect the moments together. It does take some time to get focused and move towards the central focus of the story, however. Once the lesson is taught and the story comes to the close, it feels a little rushed in the return to normality for the main character, though the epilogue helps to define that he learned something about himself.

The succubus of the story, who is never named, is difficult to call a succubus. There’s really nothing to show that she is, save for her mannerisms and a bit of demonic powers brought to bear. She has a sensual air about her, but that’s tempered by a very strong will and dominant nature that tells a lot about her. Still, with what very little she revealed about herself, she’s a sort-of succubus and it would have been nice to define that better. But this is really not a succubus story so that wasn’t going to happen.

Three out of five pitchforks.

It’s a shame the demoness of the story was never given a name, or her character explored much more than it was. Still, this is very much a gender transformation story with a life lesson than it is a story about a succubus. In that it’s really well told and interesting. As for the sort-of succubus, it would have been nice to at least give her a name.
