But there’s just some hints and ideas that didn’t go as far as I think they needed to. The last thing I’ll note is that the book summary the author gives isn’t one. It’s a clip from the story and doesn’t tell what’s being offered and that would be good to improve on.

Plot Summary

Woen struggled to aim the remote. Her frail, three-century old body, no longer able to feed. Bedridden, and exhausted, needing to rely on her three daughters to feed her more and more. On the screen, the newsreader described the mummified corpse of a man found in the boot of a car. Xia, was lazy again. At least, when it came to feeding. If only she cared about anyone, besides herself. Woen considered giving her the mantle of matriarch, was out of the question. Yera was out, finding yet another hapless man to feed her mother. She was the smartest of the three. Calculating; with their survival and happiness, always on her mind. Hearing Dyea in her room, laugh with her boyfriend on the phone -a human boy, no less. Woen knew, it was time.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 14, 2021

Woen’s time is short and her daughters are young succubi with their own moods and needs. But not all needs are singular and they can trap the unwary if they are not aware.

The work tells of the struggles and conflicts within a family of succubi and where that takes them all. It’s a bit of an odd story in how things are told, the language of the narration seems to be missing something and falls a bit flat from time to time. Similarly the dialog reads oddly, but that’s because of the personalities and backgrounds of many of the characters.

It isn’t a work of erotica so much as an adventure story that follows the sisters Xia, Yera and Dyea as they work their way through their lives and the places that the story takes them. There are some succubus aspects to the story, but it’s not really a large part overall. There’s a good deal of character growth throughout, the sisters are far different from where they begin which makes something interesting to reflect upon.

The work could use another editing pass, mainly to make the story read better and flow in a more coherent way. Otherwise there’s a lot to like here, but it’s a bit clunky and that takes away from things to a point. I’d have liked for more time spent in telling more about the family’s past, perhaps a bit more emotional impact in the characters as well overall would have been good too.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

A unique story idea that wanders a bit to get to the conclusion. The succubi are different and that makes for the conflicts that appear a means to push them to be more overall. But there’s just some hints and ideas that didn’t go as far as I think they needed to. The last thing I’ll note is that the book summary the author gives isn’t one. It’s a clip from the story and doesn’t tell what’s being offered and that would be good to improve on.
