Sonya tells of her past, the guilt, her lover Sarah, and a promise she made to have Sarah with her.

It’s honestly a promise which, given that her lover should know the needs of a succubus, is one that is terribly unfair and unwise. Still, it sets up the series to follow and gives some context that is needed when reading the series.

Sonya being a succubus is, however, very thinly dealt with. There’s a bit told of the succubi and incubi in this world, the laws they live under, which are beyond understanding honestly, and a hint of what succubi and incubi do to survive. It’s honestly so dearly dark and foreboding, but it’s core to the first work in the series, so it has to be that way.

Three out of five pitchforks.

It’s an interesting lead into the series which follows, if really only skimming over the characters and the universe they exist in. Quicker than I would have liked, but with that said as a taste of the temptations and problems ahead, it offers a tantalizing glimpse of the series to follow.

Plot Summary

A Succubus Must Feed

Sonya’s a succubus and she must feed on men in order to survive. One slight problem: she’s fallen for a girlfriend who believes in fidelity. Sonya’s girlfriend is a powerful muse. Her magic, no matter how tasty, isn’t enough to keep Sonya alive. Sarah is the first relationship Sonya has ever had that was true. She’ll do anything it takes to keep their love alive. Sonya seeks help from a local Succubi Den where a powerful Incubus can offer her what she needs. Perhaps Sarah would forgive infidelity if it meant she didn’t have to kill to survive. But when the Succubi Den turns her away because of her homosexuality, Sonya will have a choice to make. Tell Sarah the truth, or face starvation alone.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 25, 2018

The choices for Sonya are simple. Live and lose her love or die knowing her love was true. It’s a choice that she shouldn’t have to make, but Sonya is a succubus and there are some things she cannot change, no matter how much she wishes she could.

The work is a reflective story which tells of the main character Sonya’s situation prior to the first work in the series appearing. In doing so it’s a story of need and desire battling with one’s own nature and the demands placed upon her.
