The work is a mixture of a light romance, a bit of horror, possession and a little touch of mystery that overall works well to tell the story. It’s not erotica by any means, there is attraction between the main characters and that develops over the course of the story well. The focus is really on the mystery around Tanya being possessed by the succubus and the attempts to banish her.

With that said, the succubus, who is never named, is very stereotypical in her character, personality and form. She’s very much a shadow for the most part, only appearing fleetingly and needed to be more than that. It’s a shame because there could have been more of a conflict to tell more of a story.

It’s all of the what if’s that bother me in this work. We never see the succubus being a seductress, never doing more than being violent and evil. There’s nothing to make her more than what she appears to be, or for that matter could be. I also wonder about Tanya being transformed and being in control of her succubus form. Lots of interesting ideas, but never explored and that’s a shame.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

It’s really not that much of a succubus story, more the shame that there’s so little revealed about her as well. It is interesting to see how things develop and if the main characters continue to appear in the series that would something to look forward to. But as this is, it’s a story with a minor succubus character not really a story about one.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 9, 2025

Tanya seems like a nice librarian, but there’s trouble lurking beneath and it hungers. A succubus has gained a foothold, but she wants more. Julio finds himself smitten by Tanya and needs to find a way to make the curse go away forever.
