The work is an exploration of desire, domination and submission with a supernatural theme around the edges to add meaning and flavour to the story. It’s a bit scattered in the storytelling, there are points at which the author seemed to rush through events, which was a bit of a shame. Maruna is very much an evil succubus in the expected way. She takes from Ethan, he suffers for her cravings and in that respect she is very much a succubus. There is also an incubus who appears for a fleeting moment who is evil in their own way, but seems more telling in their nature and personality. There is domination of course, but at the same time he is more of a schemer and toys with the main characters which is a far more interesting aspect than Maruna is much of the time.
There’s also a bit of a gap in the mythos of the supernatural world in this story, at one point that seems very important but it’s glossed over to get through one conflict and set up the last third of the story. Maruna is a means to an end in this work, and she fulfills that role as I honestly expected. It’s a shame that she was less a character with a purpose other than to wedge herself between the main characters and not something more.
Overall it is an interesting story, the characters are flawed in many respects and given that aspect, their journey is quite telling. I do wish that Maruna and the incubus who appears briefly, where a bit more fleshed out and present beyond the their dominant aspects however.

The night brings danger to Ethan and sets him on a path which could be damnation, ecstasy, or something he never expected. Maruna tempts without end, drawing him closer and carrying along souls to her clutches. But with the gathering comes a desire which may just overcome Maruna herself and Ethan as well.
The work is an exploration of desire, domination and submission with a supernatural theme around the edges to add meaning and flavour to the story. It’s a bit scattered in the storytelling, there are points at which the author seemed to rush through events, which was a bit of a shame. Tending to be more focused on the erotic D/s themes, it’s harsher than I favour and overall while that is part of Maruna, the succubus of the work, nature, it felt a bit too over the top at times and really didn’t need to be so.
Maruna is very much an evil succubus in the expected way. She takes from Ethan, he suffers for her cravings and in that respect she is very much a succubus. Similarly her powers, her personality, the domination she holds over Ethan and Clara, the other main character, feels a bit stereotypical and I would have liked a bit more of a nuance from her.
There is also an incubus who appears for a fleeting moment who is evil in their own way, but seems more telling in their nature and personality. There is domination of course, but at the same time he is more of a schemer and toys with the main characters which is a far more interesting aspect than Maruna is much of the time.

Perhaps it wasn’t that important to delve into, but there are questions left behind about succubui, incubi and their world which might make for an interesting follow on story as well.
Maruna is a means to an end in this work, and she fulfills that role as I honestly expected. It’s a shame that she was less a character with a purpose other than to wedge herself between the main characters and not something more.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
A bit more time spent to expand on the story, Maruna’s mythos to be developed further than it was would have made this a more interesting read. At the core a relationship story with a succubus to prod the characters to sort out their desires, but it’s a bit lacking in being a succubus story at it’s core beyond the domination theme the story has.
