Plot Summary
When Seraphine inherits a crumbling manor deep in the woods, she expects rot and ruin—not whispered names in the dark, not mirrors that breathe, and certainly not the creature who waits for her with a gaze like smoke and sin.
Zavrael is ancient. Bound. Beautiful. And hungry.
Within the haunted walls of Duskmere House, Seraphine is drawn into a world of forbidden pleasure and eldritch seduction. Night after night, her body betrays her, her dreams turn vivid, and her reflection reveals truths she never wanted to face.
But the deeper she falls, the more she begins to change. There is power in the darkness. And it wants her to reign.

A mansion of mystery, figures of shade and guarded truths. A woman trapped and searching, an incubus wishing for salvation. The mansion will claim its cost, and both may come to see that they are more than what either can realize.
The work is something between a romance and a mystery mixed with aspects of a coming to one’s power story. It’s more about the main character and her development through the story, the fears and loss, the terrors to which she must come to terms with. It’s also about letting go of that which binds her to the past and seeking the real truth beckoning her.
There are some erotic aspects to the story, but they are secondary to the balance of the narrative and dialogue. The story plucks bits and pieces of the truth from Seraphine, casts them to Zavrael who then both tempts and taunts her to find the truth awaiting her.
Zavrael, the incubus of the work, walks the edge of being evil for the most part of the story, eventually making the choice to be more than he is for the sake of the woman entangled with him. He is so dearly dominant through much of the story, for a reason, but that isn;t revealed to the last. It’s the shifting of his nature that I found the most interesting overall, the decision to both give and ask for trust, the epilogue showing the last piece of his puzzle.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
The story closes in a place that is both promise and forbidding, Given the main characters being so entangled, that seemed like the best place to leave things, the future unknown to both.
