Plot Summary
I made a mistake and I’ve learned from it. After being humiliated during a one-night stand by a handsome wolf shifter, I swear off all men. Especially one in particular. But then I make another mistake. I step in front of a bullet meant for the state prosecutor and now I’ve made myself a target. I’m not safe and the only place I have left to turn is into the arms of Christopher Rogue, the wolf shifter who I swore I never wanted to see again, and Darion Nightshade; the sexy incubus I saved.
Both men vow to keep me safe, and I believe them. The thing is, now that I’m stuck under the same roof as my mate and an incubus whose devilish smile can melt snow, I’m finding it hard to resist the attraction I feel to both men. Add in a foul-mouth ex-marine and a real storm begins to brew. Not only is my life in danger but so is my heart. I should be worried about the target on my back but instead, I’m consumed by the passion these three men ignite in me.

Gemma has a problem and that’s all of the men that have been nothing but trouble. But trouble likes her and when Gemma gets in the way of a bullet meant for Darion Nightshade, the incubus is going to be either a lot of trouble or a very big surprise.
The work is a reverse harem/adventure with a bit of a crime drama on the edges. The main character Gemma is very strong and central, she has to deal with a lot of masculine angst from a lot of different directions. Cute and funny often, there’s still times when her strength of personality has to force the others to pay attention to her and that does get interesting.
Darion, the incubus of the work, is a bit self-centred and something of a pain to everyone, being just this side of over the top in some of his actions through the story. He’s not evil by any means, but at times the playing of tricks on others gets a bit much. Thankfully Gemma takes him down a peg or two, which makes him a far more interesting and likeable character by the end of the work.
Perhaps the largest issue I have is that the author refers to more than one incubus as incubuses. While I accept that it is a valid word, it looks wrong and it bothers me. To me it’s incubi and really that tripped me up every single time it happened which took me out of the story over and over again. That’s a shame honestly, I do like the story, I adore Gemma and Darion very much, but falling out of the story universe just kept bothering me.
Otherwise it’s a well written story, the characters are strong, have interesting backgrounds and there’s a real sense of their personalities throughout. The erotica has good heat, it’s not odd or wrong when it comes to pass. If anything some of the erotica might be a bit vanilla for some of the characters at times. Regardless, a fun, passionate read that I enjoyed.
Four out of five pitchforks.
It’s not, overall, an incubus story alone, but that’s not really an issue as Darion is present throughout the story. A well told story and I enjoyed that very much.
