Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 12, 2024
Getting to the point, this is not a work of fiction, there is no story being told, there are no characters, no plot, nothing that really shows any imagination. What does appear are a series of short, single paragraphs which tell of an aspect of succubi in their myths or within various religions or in modern media. This reads very much like it was taken directly from a Wiki, some art was added, and the work was published.
The information is at best a summary, at worst a sentence or two. There’s no critical thinking, no exploration of the ideas, nothing to show that an effort was put into adding depth to the information provided. The text is very dry and the overall work is just not at all interesting. I struggle to find a single part of the work where there is even an inkling that the author actually cared about this work much beyond the price tag they could place on it.
I am completely unimpressed by this work, it’s a rehash of a Wikipedia article with some small images attached to it. Really a waste of time and effort which amounts to nothing save for the cash grab that it is. Best left aside, it’s not a serious treatise or essay or work of fiction with any value to those who are interested in the succubus mythos.
One out of five pitchforks.
If you are wondering why this isn’t getting a zero, it’s because of the art. That said, if you want a summary of the succubus mythos, read the article at Wikipedia or have a look at the SuccuWiki. If nothing else there’s a lot more gained from doing so than there is in reading this work and wondering what the point was of creating it in the first place.
