Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 25, 2024

The work is a rather short, but telling, treatise on Lilith, her history, legends, and how she is seen by many different religions. It’s not a dry read, there’s a tone of reverence that comes through and adds a bit of emotional flavour that I rather enjoyed.

In a way, it reads like a scholar telling of Lilith to an audience. There are many points where the writing could have become very dry and rote, the words parroting what you might find in Wikipedia overall. Managing to just avoid doing so, what remains feels like a more personal journey of discovery.

Written quite well, the beginning third captivated me in tone and storytelling. Very much a time of Lilith before he time of the Garden of Eden, it sets her character and mythos far better and makes what comes from that time and the following history fit her beliefs and will dearly well.

The latter part tells of how others, religious and otherwise, see her and how that is described did give me paise now and again. Not from something being told incorrectly, but rather the influx of emotions, both light and darker, which came from each.

Four out of five pitchforks.

Given that the work is as short as it is, I think that’s a shame. There are many things described which are summarized. Expanding a bit on them, to give those that aren’t as aware of Lilith’s nature and tales something more to know would have been a delight. Especially with the writing style used and the passions found within the pages.
