Plot Summary
As Valentine's Day approached, I found myself torn between August, my prime, who detested the holiday, and Sasha, my other suitor engrossed in his hitman duties. Disheartened by their unavailability, I resigned myself to spending the day alone. However, fate had a different idea as the demons intervened, turning what was supposed to be a solitary celebration into an unexpected and unforgettable affair filled with passion and intrigue.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on August 11, 2024
Laylee desires her lovers, and with it being Valentine’s Day, perhaps they will fulfill them. But there are others with their own plans and so she might be spending the day alone. That doesn’t stop her from making plans anew, but events may conspire to create the unexpected, but dearly needed for them all.
The work is a short hot flash with some succubus and incubus themes, but is mainly focused on themes of dominance and submission, with a fair dash of BDSM themes to add some spice to the encounters.
The story is quite a lot of fun, especially in seeing what Laylee goes through before the climax. At the same time, the relationships between the characters, the universe as a whole, and the background really aren’t explained well. You need to have been following the larger series to have a good idea of what is going on in order to really appreciate why events unfold as they do.
In that respect, while Laylee is described as a succubus, and her lovers are incubi, there’s not a great deal of detail of what that means exactly save for the mention at points of Laylee entering the dreams of others. What’s more interesting is when the note is made that a kiss will set her mate which brings up all sorts of interesting thoughts as to how that works exactly.
As a result, there’s really very little of succubus or incubus erotica or story to be found, the story is more centred on the relationship Laylee has with her lovers and the climax of the work is they enveloping her in BDSM play. It’s a bit over the top in tone and what happens to Laylee, but for the characters it feels right.
Three out of five pitchforks.
More focused on BDSM and dominance themes than on succubus and incubus ones as a whole. The ending leaves a plot thread hanging, which I expect would be revisited in another book in the series. Perhaps the convoluted means to brining the lovers together is less important than the passions between them. Perhaps that might have been more of the focus here.
