Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on August 23, 2024
Kevin is terribly self-absorbed, caring little for anything save his own fantasies of being dominated by older women. But his mother’s friend Caroline takes him by the scruff of the neck and bends him to her will. But there is a price to pay for submitting to her, and it will mark him forever.
The work is a tepid hot flash work of female domination erotica with a hint of succubus, though more vampiric themes, around the edges. It lacks heat in many ways, the main character is eminently dislikable from the start, and it’s hard to really enjoy overall. The story seems to be fighting to find itself from the beginning, having really no clear focus for the main character, and a personality that isn’t appealing.
The narrative and dialogue reads rather flat, there’s a real lack of emotion throughout and even in what should be scenes with heat and power, it’s really not there. The writing is all over the place with events and with that, it’s difficult to remain interested in what happens.
Caroline, the character who seems to be a succubus, does have some aspects of a succubus, mainly in her dominant personality, a hint of mind control persuasion, and in her sexual power over the main character. With that also comes some vampiric traits which the work focuses on and tends to dwell there. But there’s no sign of horns or tails, no real definitive telling of her being a succubus happens either.
While there are some succubus aspects to Caroline, the story as a whole really doesn’t have much depth to it. As a female dominant story with a vampire edge to it, that is perhaps a bit more accurate of a description. That said, the work just wasn’t that interesting or appealing to me.
One out of five pitchforks.
The work needs some editing to make the story more alive than it is. The heat needs to be brought out more, and the characters need to be more than the shadows they are here. The works ends oddly, almost an unfinished thought, and it would have been good to see something more than the jarring close there is. It could be a lot more interesting with more time for the story to develop and more telling of Caroline or at the least, more time spent with her being a succubus in control and telling of that.
