Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 4, 2018

Being a succubus has given Lilin’s life something of a purpose which allows her find a means to live. Taking the lives of those guilty of crimes seems a fair trade in the end. But Jacob isn’t like them, he’s more like Lilin herself and together they may discover what seems impossible really isn’t. It’s forever.

The work is a rather short, and it is a shame it is , piece of erotica with a purpose between the sexual encounters which becomes clear as the story develops. There re moments of passion, but as well some moments of turnabout is fair play which I think allows for a glimpse into the main character Lilin’s personality and more importantly, her soul.

Lilin, the main character and succubus of the work, is something of an avenging angel in a way, making the guilty pay through her succubus needs and powers, and in doing so, it’s clear she isn’t evil like other succubi she mentions in the story. She has a sense of right and wrong and that makes her very attractive beyond her nature itself.

Eventually she encounters Jacob, the incubus of the work, and he’s very much a mirror emotionally to her. He carries a guilt and wishes to atone for what he has done. But in that comes a hope for both characters, a new found sense of purpose, and by the end of the story the climax for them feels right and brings everything into sharp focus, passion and desire.

The work could use another editing pass, mostly in the narrative to make it sharper and more emotional as we ll. Similarly, some of the dialogue could use a bit more passion and emotion than there is. The story is really so very interesting, but feels like it could be taken to another level with more passion and more story added.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

It really is a shame this work is so short, there’s a lot that could have been done to flesh out the story more than it was. Certainly it would have been interesting to learn more abut the succubi and incubi in this universe, their society, and more. But the story of Lilin and Jacob is captivating in spite of the flaws and I wish there had been more than there is.
