Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 7, 2025

The book summary is far too short to contain the story waiting here. So with that said, a summary might be: Desmond may be an incubus, he may delight in lust and what it brings. But encountering Mariah opens him to the idea of love found and what might exist beyond the world they both inhabit. Perhaps there is a place where their love can be forever, perhaps it’s not just a story told and wondered about.

The work is very short, what I have referred to as a pamphlet in prior reviews at times. Unlike many of similar length however, there is a story created, characters with passion and need who develop over time. There’s a purpose to the events that unfold and it’s more than the shortness of the work suggests.

IT’s not really erotica, it’s more of a romance between the main characters Desmond and Mariah, from beginning to climax, and along the way how they relate to each other, the truths revealed, and the need which exists between them both is so very dear. It’s hopeful through out, which I appreciated, they are both so very delightful and attractive in the exploration of themselves and what they mean to each other.

Desmond, the incubus of the work, is an incubus, but not at all in a stereotypical way. His character is a delight, meshing well with Mariah and over time there’s just such a delicious acceptance of each other that was wonderful to see unfold.

With that said, the story is just so short it becomes something of a wish by the end. Sometimes reading as a summary of events, a hint of the larger story along the way, there’s just not enough time to explore as deeply as I would have loved to see.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

With all the tangents that could have been explored, the hints about events around the main characters, and especially the ending, the author really needs to consider taking this from a pamphlet summarizing a story and bring it towards the navel that really needed to be. That might never happen and I expect it will not, but the questions raised and the story untold will make one wonder about it all.
