Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 7, 2021

The weather is frightful, and a lone traveller finds his way to a convent in the middle of nowhere. Brought into the sister;s tender mercies, he reveals himself to be an incubus and seeks out what he needs. But a trap is still a trap, no matter how delightful it may appear.

The work is a very short, what I call a pamphlet, erotic hot flash which mixes a mystery with incubus and succubus themes really quite well. A very quickly moving story, the events unfold between the main characters at some speed which leads to the revelation about the convent and the main himself. It’s very unexpected when that moment arrives, and there is a tinge of horror as to what the events of the story have led to.

The incubus of the work, who is never named, is something of an opportunist, taking advantage of the sister left to tend to him. What follows is a bit of incubi domination overall. As for the sister Mary Margaret, her true nature, and that of the sisters, doesn’t come out until the very last page. Very much succubi, it’s clear their need is as great as the incubus character’s is, and that’s a very interesting plot twist to turn things on.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

The twist is the tale was really quite a surprise and it works really well too. It is a shame that the story is so short, but it still feels complete and leaves a chilling feeling behind as to what came next. Perhaps the story isn’t quite done, it sort of feels like it and I wonder about that.
