Plot Summary
All life experiences tragedy and loss, and the best lives experience love.
But what is love? Especially as it comes from individuals who are as different as the night is from the day, and as good is different from evil. In this story we follow Rinnah Lamentson, a human-succubus hybrid; a product of a great faith, and even greater love. Continuing the saga of supernatural destiny. A destiny that intertwines the purest of souls, to the most Tainted Hearts.
Succubus Character
- Al'bah (Real name = Succubus)
Al'bah is a Succubus claiming to be over 6,000 human years old.
Personality
Within the story of Succubus Tear Al'bah's personality is demonstrated to be: flirty, playful, jealous, curious, and quick to excite and awe.
Outward Appearence
Al'bah appears to be a young woman in her early twenties or late teens. Jet black hair and moderately tanned skin with violet-blue eyes.
Powers and abilities
Al'bah's supernatural powers are demonstrated to be mostly limited to intangible mediums. Examples include; empathy, a small degree of telepathy, and manipulation of emotional / mental facilities of individuals.
Al'bah also has an extreme mastery of language and communication, able to learn English in moments, and Spanish in two minutes.
She also has an extremely powerful mastery over dream manipulation with the ability to make one dream last a lifetime to human perception.
Thus far, she has demonstrated a developed ablity to heal, and regenerate damaged / paralyzed tissue. However, it remains to be seen if a special Bond is needed.
Al'bah, like most Succubi, also has the ability to absorb / feed off of spiritual energy. Examples include; objects of extreme sentiment, or even the souls of individuals
SPOILER Al'bah has also demonstrated supernatural strength and dexterity. Examples of strength include; being able to lift Cain Lamentson with one arm from a hole, and being able to effortlessly carry Cain Lamentson even while balancing on one foot.
Alternate forms
Al'bah's form can change with her emotions. Her anger, jealousy, and rage will produce the following changes; glowing eyes, fangs, multiple clawed arms (up to 10 on the body and 4 on her head) and three barbed tails.
Al'bah's wings
Al'bah's wings size can vary, but are generally described to be huge. Brown on the inside and pink on the underside.
SPOILER Al'bah considers her wings to be symbolic of extreme sacredness; she has, in all her memory, never (willingly) revealed her wings to another being except her Bond.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 31, 2019
Life, it is said, is a means towards understanding one’s soul. We see the good and bad, the love and loss, the need and try to understand. Sometimes the lessons are harsh, sometimes they are given and we cannot comprehend what they mean. Only time, the love of our faith, and perhaps a bemused smile, can make the difference.
Following on from the first work, this continues to be a story about belief in many forms and ways. Belief in oneself, belief in one’s faith and the trust to believe in the words of someone that offers themselves to you. The story of Cain and Al’bah continues, filled with tragedy, need, trust and other aspects, but most of all, their love golding them as one. They find themselves in a place and make a decision which stretches across time and space to entangle many a soul and open many a story about them to be told.
The focus on the story is upon their daughter Rinnah, a young succubus unsure of herself, her place, and what everything means. She is very much a newborn, not physically so however. She is so very dear to me as the story unfolds as she battles with herself, the lessons she tries to learn and, perhaps, finding that someone might know her better than she knows herself.
It is a very complicated path for Rinnah to find herself on, nothing is simple or easy, and there are points at which her pain and whispering terror is so very dearly painful. But this is a story in which there are those that want things from her and it it that battle to believe in what she is taught that is so very telling.
There is quite a lot of world building here, not just in the world as it is, but rather to fall back in time to see what happened to Al’bah, the history of the succubi in this universe and the sacrifices made to bring all of the characters to where they are. There are aspects of darkness, some of which are so very much so, and it is a telling thing as those threads are pulled on and the effects they have.
Along the way, a certain ebon-maned, red-tailed succubus by the name of Tera appears. I must admit that when she does so, her thoughts, the dialogue, the little quirks of her nature, are so very much as they should be. What is more so are the little quotes scattered in the chapters from Tera which are so very much me. Perhaps the moments that I chorused the most are when she is with Rinnah and her motherly nature appears in-between the more protective aone. She is the expression of love of the succubi, given to the future of their kind in Rinnah and it mattered so very much to me with each word spoken, lesson taught, question asked and more.
Five out of five pitchforks.
There are… always paths left to be explored. Thoughts, idea, the actions of one character or another that eventually will come to what they will bring. At the close one is left wondering about the meaning of the words, the trials taken, the world passed through, the mythos made. Some things are simple truth, said from the first page onwards, carried by the hopes and eternal love of the succubi.
It is perhaps the most fitting thing that I look upon Rinnah and find myself thinking of a blue-tailed daughter of the Queen of the Succubi with her name being so very close. The love shared, the lessons learned, the words cast to bring about what matters the most.
I look forward to the next work by Andreas, whatever that may be. There are so very few stories that I hold in my heart and soul and I cherish these ever so dearly.
