Plot Summary

Marchetti has spent nine years building the kind of life that doesn't leave room for surprises. She's a litigation partner at one of Manhattan's most demanding firms, she wins cases she isn't supposed to win, and she has learned — through the particular discipline of someone who has always known something was wrong with her — to keep herself very carefully contained.

Then a package arrives from a trust she didn't know existed, left by a grandmother she never met. Inside: a pendant of Venetian glass, a journal in Italian, and instructions for a man named Adrian who has apparently been waiting for her.

By that weekend, she will have discovered that the hunger she has been managing her entire adult life is not a flaw. It will transform her life and thrust her into the intrigue of a supernatural Court that has been monitoring her bloodline for centuries.
