Plot Summary

Lily is in the middle of the worse time of her life. Cheated out of her job, friends missing and now someone, or something is looking for her. But with all the bad, Julian might be everything she needs. Assuming the two of them can survive the mess they find themselves in and actually say the words that will change their lives and love.
The work is a somewhat complicated, but fun, fantasy adventure romance set in a modern day universe of witches, incubi, succubi and any number of other supernatural beings. Very much a light hearted read, the story moves quickly from moment to moment with really very little time to consider what’s happened before the next moment arrives.
The main characters are delightful and mesh together in a lovely way, the erotica simmers and builds through the story and peaks in the character’s passions in a wonderful way. It’s also so very snarky from time to time, really all of the characters have that in them, the main character the most. The world building is a bit rushed and assumes that the reader knows the series or at least the highlights of it. While the short notes here and there fill in the gaps, they also lead towards a lot of questions needing to be answered at some point and some characters that make a splash, grab your attention, and then sort of fade out and that feels like a shame.
Julian, the incubus of the work, is so very dearly interesting, if quite a conflicted and confused character at times. He is very much an incubus, his nature is wonderful in that respect and the erotic scenes have the heat and passion they should. What is more interesting to me is the world building at times that takes the story on the edge of dealing into that theme, but more or less brushes over it in the rush to get back to the main plot and conflict. He is quite dominant, but in a softer way that I prefer in male characters, love and passion in that respect as otherwise earthing is forced and it really isn’t here.
But the character that really interested me the most was neither of the main characters, it was the minor character Gina, the succubus of the story. I want to know more about her, I desire to see her passion, her mischievous nature and most of all, I want to see her character arc be explored. She is a presence in the story that just demands to be seen and she is, but it’s so fleeting and it disappointed me when she could have been so much more.
Then there is the missing part of the story, an incubus from the past that I really want their story to be told. The hints about that are just so forward that I honestly expect that sometime and if it doesn’t happen, that is as much as shame.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s a cute and fun romance adventure which overall worked well. With that said, while there are incubi and succubi aspects, they really weren’t explored save in passing. The relationships between the succubi and incubi are sort of a given here as well. What I really wonder about is Gina, the succubus of the story. I was captivated by her and I really want a story focused on her entirely. There’s too much character in her to be just cast aside and I hope that happens.
