Plot Summary
Iltani is a succubus, an immortal with the claws of a beast, sent out each night into the dreams of men to feast off their sexual essence. This she brings back to feed her queen, the priestess-goddess Lilith. Then, one night, Iltani meets Justin Dupre -- shiftless layabout, dilettante -- passed out on the floor of his house. She bathes him, takes him to bed, and begins her spell. Her powers are not able to keep him mesmerized as they should. But then again, he’s made her come!
Justin thinks he saw an angel flee through a mirror, but that can’t be right. The next morning, he discovers a strange dress in his house. He stuffs it in his pocket and goes for coffee. His cousin, Eli, has painted a portrait of the strange girl, and it hangs in the coffee shop. Eli explains about Lilith and the succubus. He’s been haunted by her image too. Justin tries to explain away the girl. Maybe they’d both seen her at a bar, or maybe she was some kind of home invader that preyed on single men? Regardless, Justin is drawn to the woman.
That man in that small, hot room had been the first one ever -- in thousands of years -- to make her come, and the next night, she ends up with him again. Knowing she has to undo something she did wrong, Iltani instead finds herself drawn to the man. Is there more to him than an orgasm?
She arranges to come back the next night too, by trading items again. The system will have to bring her back to replace the items as it had the first time, right? Taram-uram tells Lilith what she knows about Iltani’s plans, and Enheduanna -- a true friend to Iltani -- tries to stop her before she again travels into the New Orleans night. Iltani realizes that she wants to stay with Justin, and they retreat to the one place that Justin thinks Lilith can’t track them: his aunt’s plantation. But will the storm and Lilith both hit Tante Simone’s house? Will the new lovers have to face the wrath of both Mother Nature and Iltani’s Mother?
