A few years after the death of his only relative, his mother, a young woman who claimed to be an acquaintance of his mother came to visit. When she learned of Elliot's existence, she revealed her succubus face and whispered: "From now on Start and you will make it." Book Review

Sometimes the truth of who you are and what you are is very obvious when you look in th mirror. For Elliott there’s no question that he is of demon kind but beyond that it’s all a mystery. Being drawn into the world by forces and fates beyond his control, his truth will be revealed but to what cost and to whose displeasures is the question.

The work is mainly an adventure fantasy that has a very strong anime feel to it. While there are aspects of erotica here and there, it’s more focused on the journey of the main character and the exploration of those around him and the world beyond.

It is, however, very oddly written in tone, dialogue and other aspects. From time to time the anime influences come in, tending towards more hentai tones in the dialogue than anything else. How the story flows in the narrative felt very much like this was a story translated from another language.

There is a lot of story drift, how the dialogue appears, being bracketed in an odd way, makes the story trip over itself as well. I found the work as a whole really difficult to focus on and become invested in, not the least because the succubi that appear just seem out of place.

Astarte and Sara, the succubi of the story, are in character, voice, and description, very much hentai succubi. That’s to say they struggle with their nature and while that has moments which I found to be interesting. they really aren’t developed as much as I wanted them to be.

While there are succubi characters in this work, ti cannot be said to be focused on succubi. Supporting characters perhaps, occasionally appearing to add a bit of spice to events as a whole. There just was so very little that held my interest and it’s a bit of a shame all things considered.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

I’m hot sure that this story needed to be well over 700 pages to get to the climax and bring things to a close. The larger problem, for me at least, was trying to make sense of the story. It’s convoluted and scattered, and given a really serious editing and more story focus, could have been so much better a read.
