Plot Summary

Simon Marshall was a trust-fund playboy enjoying the good life that being handsome, smart, and rich can bring. Then he met Irena, the beautiful Czech club girl who turned out to be a lot more than she seemed. When the dust settled, Irena was dead and Simon found himself thrust into the world of the supernatural without a clue as to how to survive there. And when Simon's experiments lead to his summoning a succubus named Lily, the temptation proved too great. Now she's his for a year - and then his soul is hers forever.

Simon and Lily have the world at their feet and their choice of exotic playmates. Lily can give Simon anything - or anyone - he wants, and the erotic possibilities are unlimited. Between Simon's wealth and Lily's power, they're off on a sexy version of "Around the World in Eighty Days." But both of them know the clock is ticking. Both of them will find that what they thought they wanted won't seem so important when lust turns to love even in the heart of a demon. And maybe, just maybe, they can find a way to change their destinies.

Even if there is a way out, though, there's still the small matter of Lily's boss - the Devil Himself. He's not amused by the attempts of mere mortals to thwart him, especially for something like... Love. Can Simon and Lily ever be safe from the wrath of the Lord of the Pit?

Or will the Devil's Huntsman find a way to collect from both of them?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 7, 2015

This is the story of Simon, who discovers that magic is real, that succubi are as well, but also that one particular succubus named Lily is the most real of all. A year of lessons, exploration and hope comes to a singular moment when the choice to ask for the impossible is made and in the moments after even the impossible is real.

I have written that I loved this series dearly, that Lily is one of my most favourite succubi characters, and how much I adored how Simon’s life and Lily’s come together and how things unfold for them both. This work places the entire Hell To Pay series into long full length novel and in doing so the work stands up quite well. There are some interludes between the larger chapters that connects things nicely, but there’s something more.

At the end of the third work, there was the hanging question of what was the cost of Simon’s plan and what happened to Lily as a result. This work concludes this part of Lily and Simon’s tale in a way that is simply perfect. It ties up nicely some loose ends, offers insight into why things turned out as they did, but more importantly, the conclusion does something more. It tells of something that was core to the series from the beginning and in the end turns out to be the meaning behind all that came to be.

It’s passionate, loving, spiced with a bit of adventure, mystery and, yes, there are some questions left at the end. All of that fits perfectly and just made me love Lily and Simon even more. In the face of what comes for them, there’s a singular purpose to Lily and Simon. Seeing that finally out in the open between them, seeing Lily’s reactions to knowing, truly, something she never knew before and being given something she never could have imagined is rewarding.

Reading the series as a whole, to once more see how things went from a magician summoning a succubus to that single universe changing moment reminded me of how well the author writes, how strong his characters are. Story, I have said many times, matters. This work has story, has the characters to make it sing, and if they happen to have some lovely heat along the way, that just makes everything so much better.

A joy to read. I’ve come to love Lily and Simon dearly, with all of their quirks, moods, and more. This novel is a wonderful expression of how succubi should be written for one, but most of all, it tells of an author who knows, with certainty, how to tell a story and tell it well. Five out of five pitchforks.

It is a wonderful moment when a story is told fully, completely, and with all of the emotion, love, and strength that the characters have to give. Telling that story, bringing to life something exceptional is, by far, the most wonderful gift that any author can share.

For bringing Lily to life, for giving Simon purpose and, most of all, for showing that really anything is possible… Thank you Marc. For this, most of all, made me so very happy to see unfold…

While this work closes the story of Lily and Simon for the moment, it is just for a moment. The future, whatever shall be, will be wonderful to see…
