There is something lurking in the shadows of an isolated monastery seeking out a means for what they desire. A succubus finds that those within the walls are perfect for her purpose to her delight. They will be made to obey, to become what she wills and when the time is right, her plotting and planning will create a special kind of damnation and transformation for all.

The work is a succubus story with a very strong focus on mind control, personality change, physical transformation, futa and otherwise, and dominance. There’s also a really well developed list of characters, both main and minor that offer a lot of possibilities to explore. What’s interesting is while there is erotica throughout the work, it doesn’t take over the storytelling. It’s an important part of the corruption and transformations, but it isn’t just there in the story for the sake of it.

The telling of the plot, the plot as it develops, offers many paths for the characters to pass through. Overall, there is a very strong domination aspect, which makes sense considering the main characters and mixed with the comes the corruption and mind control that slowly seep into each. It’s not a snap of fingers and the plot moves on by any means. The time is taken for things to be seductive and temptations offered before the fall.

The main characters, Avaria, the central succubus of the story and Valerie, who is corrupted into Avaria’s plans, are an interesting pair. Avaria is very much evil, but while she is, there’s not a lot of stereotypical aspects to her. She has a purpose, a plan, and that drives her and the story onwards. When Valerie comes into the story, her corruption begins very subtly and then progresses through her transformation into what Avaria wants her to be.

While the mind control and transformation are very erotic and I liked them quite a lot, the futa aspects became a little bit repetitive by the close. What saved the work from getting caught in that trap was the very solid plot, the dominant aspects of both Avaria and Valerie, and what the purpose was finally revealed to be.

As a succubus corruption and transformation story, this work is really well done. The characters, especially Avaria and Valerie, are amazing in how their story is told. I’d have liked more succubus aspects, more background about succubi in this universe as well.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

Where the story closes leaves a very clear path to a following work, which would be interesting to see. Perhaps in that aspect more of a focus on the succubi as a whole, or at least to see what their world is like, would bring what’s missing here.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 26, 2024
