In 2010, the artist Tara McPherson created a work of art for the Dark Pop exhibition at the Last Rites Gallery in New York City called '''Lilitu'''. Originally painted on Linen with oil paints, the art featured the image of a dark skinned naked woman with long red hair rising from a pool of water holding a severed male head.

The artist described the work as showing a representation of the Sumerian myth of the demon Lilitu. According to that myth, she represents chaos, seduction and ungodliness. She is a sexually charged yet infertile succubus who behaves aggressively toward men and children killing them at a whim. In all of her forms, she has cast an evil spell on humankind.
