Plot Summary
Twenty-one year old Cara is an aspiring writer who cherishes her solitude. That is, until one night, she meets an older man named Simon at a local poetry slam. Simon transforms Cara from a shy literature buff into a Gothic beauty. While Cara falls in love with Simon, he exploits her for his own purposes. Simon’s rejection of Cara puts her in the direct path of a mysterious woman named Mia. When Cara learns of Mia’s dark secret, Mia offers her the chance to escape her loneliness forever—by becoming a succubus. Cara embraces the supernatural world as a means to escape the pain of unrequited love.
Cara initially loves the confidence and power she gains from her transformation. Best of all, she never feels alone due to the constant presence of her succubus self. In order to keep her succubus thriving, Cara begins working as an exotic dancer named Simone. She easily absorbs the energy she needs to survive from her male customers. Cara soon learns that everything comes at a price as Simone’s dark side begins to emerge. She writes, I became a succubus. I became a temptress, a love vigilante, and a beautiful monster. Cara must find a way to free herself from the beautiful monster within. The Diary of a Succubus is a chronicle of Cara’s transformation into a succubus, as well as her fight to regain her humanity.
