Plot Summary

Jonathan Stone killed the wrong person. Or rather, he didn’t kill the right person. Now all Hell is on his trail.

Not many private investigators employ a female Incubus as a personal assistant, but then Jonathan Stone is no run-of-the-mill PI. However, even he is perplexed to be intercepted on a dark Brooklyn street by Aron MacIntosh, a wealthy and powerful vampire with a lucrative but mysterious commission apparently well suited for Stone’s particular skillset - to locate a certain individual who is neither human nor vampire nor demon, but something else entirely.

A modern day Marlowe with a difference and a quick line in cynical, hard-bitten humour, Stone's investigations lead him deep into a dark world of demons, magic and conspiracy where no-one is quite who or what they say they are.The Bookman, a dealer in esoteric lore who employs his own particular brand of demonic protection, leads Stone in the direction of the elusive Julius Morningstar, seemingly the only man with any chance of tracking down that most rare of supernatural creatures - the Wraith. But is Morningstar even alive? Hot on his trail, Stone becomes increasingly diverted by the unwelcome arrival of Ash, another and very different kind of vampire, and the emerging but shadowy presence of something known only as Prospero.

Deep inside the dark underbelly of New York City, Stone needs every ruthless skill at his disposal to survive a series of visceral encounters with vampires and demons, and finding himself betrayed and virtually alone as his own dark and mysterious past unravels before him, he must learn at last to face a shocking truth in the frantic race to save… The Last Magic.
