Plot Summary

This anthology includes:

  • The Valentine Empress by J. Tiffany Noore:z Can a young womanizing nobleman find the true Imperial heir, or will he be crushed by five powerful families? With the help of an Imperial librarian, he must outwit, out-class and out-seduce to survive. The thing is, she hates everything he stands for. She believes in truth, chivalry and love. They have until Valentine’s Day to work out their differences before deciding the fate of the Empire.
  • The Heart Shaped Box by Sigh: Five university students discover a strange heart shaped box of chocolates in their attic during Valentine’s Day with strange properties that unlock their wildest desires.
  • Fated Love by Scarlet Lee Winters: A hopeful but nervous succubus sets out to find love having only experienced the lust of other people.
  • A Valentine’s to Remember by Jordan Riley: Kyle and Lisa have been happily married for seven years now. He’s the only man she’s ever been with, but when he sees her flirting with another man, a latent desire begins to arise from within, especially after he finds out who the man is. Playing with fire could heat up the relationship…or it could burn everything down.
  • Rings and Furs by Clea Salar & Tallis Salar: Lucas’s girlfriend Chessary has gone out of her way to put together a romantic weekend in the city for Valentine’s Day. She made all the arrangements, booked the room and the restaurants and the show, did everything to make it perfect. She even vamped up her wardrobe, trading out her more practical clothing for things that were tighter and lower cut. And that’s the problem, because Lucas isn’t precisely human, and when he gets turned on it’s very hard not to shift. And Ches is being very, very naughty.
  • Noah’s Spicy Night by Olivia Lawless: Noah and his wife Kendall are going through a messy divorce. She thought she would be funny and send a fuck-off-a-gram to him for Valentine’s Day. Things don’t go to plan as Noah and Vivian hit it off.
  • That Girl by Ian D Smith: A young man meets a woman who helps him find his confidence with romance, and surprise developments on their first Valentine’s Day open the door to a fun future.
  • Roman Holiday: A Love Story by Kerry Grant: An ex-journalist chases a rumor about a high-profile couple’s sexual adventures over Valentine’s weekend only to discover it is true. Once uncovered, he is allowed to observe their unusual behavior. But he may never be the same again. A Lynchian love story.
  • Cupid’s Curse by Sofia Gioconda: Marisol, the sexy middle-aged witch-next-door, whom Joshua used to watch dancing nude in her yard on full moon night, cock firmly in hand, is the only person he can think of who can help him when he gets cursed on Valentine’s Day. She agrees, but there’s a big problem—Joshua is trapped in a time loop, waking up on Valentine’s Day over and over, so every day, they have to start from scratch. As Joshua relives February 14, he comes to learn that some priorities need to be rearranged, and maybe, just maybe, a dream needs to be chased, too.
  • Unlocking the Cage by Scott Lyell: Two lovers are drifting apart, and try to rekindle their passion with a trip to the tropics. But will it be enough to overcome the emotional scars one of them carries with him?
  • Be My... by Saddletramp1956: Once lost, can love be found again? Divorced 15 years over wife’s infidelity, Eric and Brenda come back together after he learns of medical issues that could kill his former wife, who he still has feelings for. But can they make it work?
  • The ‘Non-Date’ by Alex Holmes: When childhood best-friends Dan and Billie act on Dan’s hare-brained scheme to meet his paramore, the rock singer Tia at her Valentine’s Day concert, how many things could possibly go wrong? Will our hero get to meet the object of his desires, or will things take different—horny—turn?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 9, 2023

Eislyn isn’t very happy as a succubus. Lust is.. well.. just lust and while that feeds her body, her soul and heart desire something far more rare and special. Discovering tales of passion and love gives hope to Eislyn and she is given a chance to find what she wishes for. The Gods sometimes hear prayers and once in a very long time, even the wish of a succubus can be made true.

The work is a passionately explorative tale of Eislyn, the succubus of the story, discovering there is more than lust to be found and where that realization takes her to. This isn’t a hot flash by any means however. It’s a well crafted story which takes Eislyn on an exploration of herself, her wishes and in time, draws her into being given the chance to find the rarest of things, a true love.

Eislyn is wonderful in being nothing like the stereotypical succubus. She’s thoughtful, reflective, adores reading, and from the first moment I adored her. If there is such a thing as lost soul, she is so very much that as well as being somewhat so very innocent and lost in the world of mortals.

None of this is bad, it gives rise to her seeking love, meeting a God, being given the means to try to find that love. There are other threads mixed in the story which don’t come to the fore until Eislyn must reveal herself to her paramour Ner and in that scene comes something that captures my adoration completely.

Thera is some flashes of erotica in the work, but they do not define Eislyn or Ner’s relationship. The erotica is loving, slowly building as their relationship begins and blossoms into something far more. It’s not sex for the sake of it as a succubus for Eislyn, this is very much soulmates being connected and entwined. It’s just that one of them happens to have a tail and horns.

The writing is amazing, all of the characters have meaning and bring life to the story. I do feel that the ending is a bit abrupt all things considered however. With all that came before, it’s a bit disappointing in the matter of factness which I thought was really bittersweet. However that didn’t make my love of both Eislyn and Ner any less by far.

Four out of five pitchforks.

I simply adore Eislyn and Ner. It’s a wonderful story, well told and carries with it emotions and need throughout. I’d honestly love to see a longer work about them, more so, a story where the love begun becomes something more, perhaps even transformative for both. Besides, any of the Succubi that adores reading as much as i do will always leave me truly delighted.

For the collection as a whole, three and a half out of five pitchforks.

The balance of the stories are themed really well wth tales of love and passion which I did enjoy. It’s a little uneven here and there, mainly to the mixture of writing styles, but there’s a work for many tastes and the characters are fully realized in their one stories.

Overall a very good read for Valentine’s Day, a lot of fun and really that’s the most important thing to discover of all.
