Plot Summary

It is early in the 14th century, and Lilith the fire devil has is ready to begin work as a succubus. Her duty is to use the sin of lust against her mortal quarries on the Earth, called Terra or Gaia by its people. She will stain stain souls and stack kindling for the fires of Hell, on pain of the worst punishment known to devildom: tickle torture. Her first adventure will take her into the Britannic hamlet known as Caldecote, where she will discover that she can't quite bring herself to think of the Earth and its people the way she had been taught.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 26, 2022

The world of mortals is a strange place the newly arrived Lilith has discovered. There’s so much she doesn’t understand, so many things to discover and to fear. Perhaps in the discovery of mortal needs she will find her own kindled anew.

The work is an interesting mix of adventure, self-discovery and exploration with a bit of theology. There are some really quite sad moments for Lilith, but there are also moments of wonder and delight too. It’s really quite a unexpected story as it tells its tale, and that was really delightful.

Lilith, the succubus of the work, is somewhat a lost soul for the most part, but that makes her journey so much more intriguing. She’s not stereotypical, and it’s the telling of what she learns as things progress that held me.

There’s really no erotica to speak of and overall the little hints, and one rather apt fetish, work well. There’s not a real need for sex scenes as they just would get in the way of the storytelling. That does work well, Lilith being somewhat lost in her path is the focus as it should be.

Written in a slightly odd style, that being needed for both the time it is set and how Lilith sees the world around her. Her emotions and self-narrative just add that little something which gives a little spice, but a lot more heart, overall. It’s a bit shorter than I would have liked, perhaps more time spent in telling the events before Lilith left for the mortal realm would have helped. Perhaps more time spent in telling some of what she does there would have added a bit more depth to her character.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The story is a bit scattered, but that’s a reflection of Lilith herself. That said, there’s a lot to like and I have hopes for the series going forward, especially how the first work closes. I wonder if Lilith will move forward in time, if she’ll encounter other societies. That would be interesting, to see how her character grows going forwards. hopefully she can remain as unique as she is and not become stereotypical.
