Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 30, 2022

A small town has a problem with a succubus and Jacob, the young priest newly arrived, does his best to protect his charges. But getting in the way of a succubus’ needs can make one their target for satisfaction. It is very difficult to resist a hungry succubus, more so when her needs demand she claims her prey. Jacob might discover that for a succubus, one taste is never enough.

The story is a long drawn out hot flash erotic work which focuses on the main character Jacob being confronted by a rather miffed succubus named Lilith. The characters are wonderful, the story has depth and when the heat falls into place it’s well done. There’s something delightful about Lilith’s temptation, how she toys with Jacob and what comes from that by the end of the work.

The erotic theme is very much succubus dominant, Jacob finds himself at Lilith’s mercies and through that there’s a great deal of storytelling that comes from it. It’s not just the sex scenes themselves, but more it’s the delving into Lilith’s personality, what she wants from Jacob. It’s both tender at times and very strongly focused on Lilith being in control as well.

The main succubus of the story, Lilith, is very much a seductress in form and personality. Perhaps slightly stereotypical at times, but she doesn’t quite fall into the truly evil succubus trope I think. She’s evil in her own way of course, and Jacob is caught in her web of desire. But she’s also refreshingly direct in what she wants, how she will get it, and more. There’s also a hint of delight she has in Jacob which leads to the other two succubi of this work.

Ruby and Onyx are something of innocently naughty when they appear and their personalities are just fun. They do have their nature take over and they entwine themselves with Jacob as much as Lilith does. But it’s the discovery of that nature which just become a wonderful exploration of succubi becoming of age.

Wonderfully written, there’s nothing that takes the reader out of the story. The battle between Lilith and Jacob isn’t a snapping of fingers, there’s resistance which has to be fought against and the consequences of what happens is more erotic heat than horror which is always a wonderful story to read. I like the things left to the reader’s imagination, the threads left open to wonder about. All in all a hot flash with the characters to bring that out fully.

Four out of five pitchforks.

What makes this story delightful are the succubi and how they aren’t exactly what they are expected to be. That’s not to say they aren’t mischievous or that they aren’t the seductresses they are. It’s more that the story doesn’t revolve around them being exactly evil which I enjoyed. Where the story ends I would love to see what follows afterwards, the three succubi and Jacob are intertwined and where that might go fascinates me.
