Plot Summary

A terrible curse that can only be broken by love…

Odral was forced by witches to work as an incubus demon for centuries until they sealed their realm and destroyed the records on how to summon him. Now a witch has appeared in his territory with his name in her mouth, but he holds all the cards. He locks her up in the chambers meant for the lady of the castle, and he can’t help wanting it for real. Now his heart wars between beating for his mate and his trapped people.

Alicia had found the books possessed by her ancestors years ago but was never able to read the oldest one until today. After uttering his ancient name, she stumbles into a world of shadows and nightmares, but things are not what they seem when she gets imprisoned by a man that looks like a demon. Her heart aches for what he and his people have been through, and she wants to break the curse as much as she wants to destroy the walls around his heart.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 29, 2023

There are such things as magic, but for Alicia they haven’t truly been revealed to her. A book discovered brings her to a world of seeming darkness. But something isn’t right, the demons that greet her do not seem evil. But there is something wrong in this world, she can feel it in her soul. More so, there is something wrong with the demon that greeted her, Odral, who is anything but demonic or evil as well. The world around them hinges on two souls accepting each other and making this world better for doing so.

The work is a fantasy adventure with an undercurrent of mystery to carry the story along. Light in erotica, the work mainly serves to tell the story of the main characters, the world they reside in, and what trials the two of them pass through in order to come to see the truth they have. It’s complicated at times, the story wanders a bit here and there, but this all serves to draw the reader into the story and delight in the wonders revealed.

Alicia, the main character, is headstrong and strong willed which keeps her from being a damsel in distress which honestly adds a lot to her as a character and the work overall. In her choice to help Odral, to find a way to help those who inhabit this world, her will and personality presses to make change appear regardless of the risks. She doesn’t always do the right thing, she might allow her temper to get the better of her, but in the end she strives to do good an that matters here.

Odral, who can be described as the incubus of the work, is anything but stereotypical in his character. Yes his form is what you might expect, but otherwise he is more an angel. His purpose is to do good for his kind, to make things better. While that does go astray on occasion, and he suffers, from the moment he appears its clear that his world, people, and himself, are nothing like what Alicia expected them to be. In being so, the discovery of their truth by her allows wonderful storytelling.

The fantasy world aspects have depth and detail which I enjoyed. The characters, both major and minor, have purpose and drive. Some of the explorations by Alicia feel added in at first, but they soon are revealed to have meaning. The puzzle pieces take some time to fit together, the characters evolve over the story, and new mysteries come to be. The story offers a lot to promise and delivers that with little wasted time and doing so it holds your attention from beginning to end.

Four out of five pitchforks.

A very well told beginning to what appears to be a very long series of books assuming that all of the witches revealed at the end of the work find their soulmates. I do hope the author continues the series, it’s been some time since they released this work to my review and nothing further has appeared. The universe is wonderful, the characters are enthralling. Perhaps at some point along the way the truth of why things are will be revealed. Things will become quite interesting for all involved when that happens and I hope it does.
