Plot Summary

Blaire McGregor just wanted to do the right thing. But everyone makes mistakes, and even the best intentions can come with the worst of consequences; or the heaviest of prices. Haunted by her sins, Blaire becomes entangled with an entity calling herself Roan. Together, bound to blood contracts, they resolve to right Blaire's wrongs and solve an upcropping of murder sprees in Caybolt, Arkansas. However, the deeper Blaire goes, the more she finds how twisted her reality truly is. Between cosmic being's seeking to "purify" the human race to an overly friendly succubus without a lord to serve, Blaire's world is turned upside down in a tailspin of cosmic dread and self-hatred. In the face of all the uncertainty, there is one thing Blaire knows: she will die, because she deserves it. The question is, what will kill her first? The creatures stalking her home? Or Roan, sucking her life away?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 7, 2022

Blaire finds herself connected to a power she doesn’t understand and a succubus that knows her better than she does herself. Her path is unclear, mysteries abound, and at some point Blaire will make a choice which will either make it all worthwhile or end everything in flames.

The work combines mystery with a bit of erotica along the way which doesn’t hurt the storytelling. It’s a unique tale, certainly being unexpected at times in where the story goes. Thoughtful with passion, the story is told well and I enjoyed the path it took.

Nesara, the succubus of the work, isn’t stereotypical, though there are questions about her purpose and intentions that remain for the most part hidden. There’s an earnest aspect to her, as if she knows something and wants to press the issue, but Blaire’s uncertainty makes that something of a struggle for both of them.

The writing is very good, the character development seems a bit lost, but towards the climax there’s a point where things begin to get sorted for Blaire and that’s when the story turns in an unexpected direction, which I liked.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

An interesting story, though I think there’s a lot of character development that needs to be done overall. The complexity of the plot and storytelling is very good and I’m looking forward to where the series goes from here. It’s not a succubus story overall, and if there’s one thing I’d like to see, it’s Nesara’s past being explored more and why that took Blaire where it did in the here and now. That would be interesting to watch unfold.
