Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 23, 2021
A collection of choices being made with expectations not always brought to appear. One doesn’t always get what they expect, and not always does one’s fate become what they’d like. But when a deal is done, the price has to be paid.
There’s very little succubus or incubus stories to be found, and overall the work is themed more towards somewhat over the top levels of erotica which didn’t appeal to me very much. That’s a shame because the stories that had some kind of succubus or incubus theming could have been expanded into larger stories and that I think would be something for the author to think about.
But otherwise this is best described as a collection of sex themed erotica looking for directions and not quite finding it. Most of the works are very short but in being so there’s an interesting range of subject matter that the work delves into. I do feel that the author could have expanded on many story ideas and make them far more than what appears here. As such, there’s not a lot of character development, the stories don’t have a lot of depth and tend to explore the erotic and, on occasion, taboo subjects the story revolves the characters around.
Still, the writing is expressive, it brings out both questions and things to consider as the stories progress. I’d still like to have more story than erotica, I think there’s more than enough in each work to have allowed for that.
For the collection as a whole, three pitchforks out of five.
It’s not a collection of succubus or incubus stories, far from it. As a work that reaches into various themes and settings, it does so well. But you shouldn’t be expecting many horns and tails in this work. There aren’t many.
