Ben is forced to clean up the mess around his home and finds amongst all of the trash a book of spells that offers a way to summon a lover. But the thing about such books is there is always fine print and not paying attention can cost you.
The work begins with actually quite a lot of detail about Ben, his life, and what he wants, in a way. The events leading to the finding of the book start out relatively normal, but then become increasingly odd as things go. Upon finding the book, the story becomes a series of short scenes between Ben and a female being he has summoned through the book.
One of these, Kyra, is a succubus and overall she remains the longest in the work, but she is, as a whole, a rather stereotypical succubus in her words, actions, and what happens between her and Ben. There’s really not a lot of time spent in the telling of who Kyra is for getting to her entwining herself around Ben.
What follows after that is a series of encounters, rather short ones, before the final being appears and at least some of the underlying story is revealed. But in doing so the story really seems to lose its way. There is a lesson in the story, which is fine, but the telling of it, the person that does so, and how that is done doesn’t really get told well.
The work is short and to the point, the ending is quite sudden and leaves very little to the imagination. There’s really no redemption for any of the characters, nor is there in the ending something other than a twist followed by a taunt.
The work really could have been expanded on in a lot of ways. Each of the individual encounters could have been turned into ten or twenty page on its own, for one. As well, the climax of the work, the reveal, might have been drawn out as well. Perhaps in doing so the feeling of things being rushed at the end wouldn’t have been so much in the forefront of the work.
The erotica, which mainly focused on Kyra, has its moments, some heat, but it is rushed and in being so the heat becomes muted. There was the barest hint of some succubus mind control and other powers, and in some ways I liked that for the transformational aspects of it. But Kyra’s single minded focus I think took something away.
The writing needs some editing, if to just make the story be less rushed in the telling. The beginning of the work took quite some time to set everything up, but then when the story moved to the point of the work, that’s when things rushed by. Taking as much time in the latter two-thirds of the work would have made for a better read.

The concept is good, there’s a lot that could have been done with it. Instead the story cannot decide where it is going and by the time the ending arrives the opportunity is lost.
