Plot Summary

Most were not aware of what crawled through the darkness, but Alicia didn’t have that blessing. When she was a child, something slaughtered her family, and she only escaped by what seemed to be luck, getting rescued by a family of hunters.

Suddenly, she had a new home, and knowledge of a world she had never known existed, and everything became far more complicated than before.

And then, when she turned seventeen, she lost her new family, only this time she could do something about it, and she hunted down the monsters that did it and put an end to them.

Over the years that followed, that was what filled her life. She hunted down the monsters that preyed on humanity, put an end to dozens of them. And then she got wind of one that might just be the most dangerous monster she had ever faced, and she prepared herself to face her. It wouldn’t be easy, however; succubae could be especially dangerous.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 23, 2022

Alicia has been hunting monsters so long that it has consumed her utterly. Discovering that Korine is a succubus leads to a confrontation that doesn’t go as Alicia planned. Korine may be a succubus, but she isn’t a monster. Perhaps in seeing past what they both think the other represents will come the return of light to both of their souls.

The work mainly focuses on the interplay between the main characters and the realizations that come from each of the encounters themselves. It’s not an adventure so much as it tells of two souls dancing around themselves and discovering their own truths. As the work is told from Alicia, the main character’s perspective, that clarity and thought comes entirely from her. It’s that self-examination that truly breathes life into the work and brings the depth and emotional impact needed.

The succubus of the work, Korine, is simply delightful. Though she has no horns or tail, she has a different view of her needs and how she can fulfill them. She has an attitude that I found wonderfully familiar and close to my heart. How that happens makes complete sense but more, it allows for the entanglement with Alicia which is where the erotica makes the story sing.

The erotica is simply delicious from the first hint to the last moment of desire. There are points from which the emotions of the story come that brought me to tears and that’s a very rare thing. This is erotica that has meaning to the story and the characters, it isn’t over the top or lacking depth and warmth. It simply is a wonderful series of passages that tell of the connection made and the need both characters find.

The writing is excellent save for a few points where a character was described as ‘woman’ and not who they were. Otherwise the mood is told well, the scenes are fully realized and the story is well worth a read.

Four out of five pitchforks.

The work closes in a very melancholy way that just felt at odds with all else that happened. That’s not to say it didn’t make sense, for it did. I just wanted something better than what came. However, it does bring up an interesting thought about what the future holds for Alicia and Korine. It’s really not explored how succubi come to be in this literary universe. Wouldn’t that be a story to tell and what that brings? Something to wonder about if nothing else for a story that delights and was well enjoyed.
