Plot Summary

Takeshi is an incubus working in a Japanese host club in an attempt to stay under the radar of demon hunters, and larger demons, while still feeding himself. When Kieran, a university student on exchange from Australia, comes into the club, Takeshi is immediately overwhelmed by the amount of intimate energy he has. He’s sure Kieran could fully satiate his hunger without breaking a sweat.

Kieran is sceptical of the host he meets during his foray into Japan’s more unique businesses. There’s no reason a host would want to date one of his clients, and it’s unlikely that he’s even really interested in men. And when he starts going on about the same energy rubbish as one of Kieran’s weirder neighbours, and even calling himself a demon, Kieran finds it even harder to take him seriously.

Still, there’s something magnetic about Takeshi, and Kieran would be lying if he said he didn’t want to find out more. Similarly, Takeshi can’t kid himself that Kieran is just a meal ticket for long.

But focusing his attention on the wrong human could bring down the wrath of demon hunters.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 8, 2019

Takeshi doesn’t want to be noticed, would rather be in the shadows, but a soul appears that he cannot resist and despite the danger, he shows himself. Perhaps it id worth the risk to find the soul that makes you complete.

The work is a male/male romance adventure with a bit of an incbuus theme to the story. It’s fast paced, but there is time for developing the plot and characters so that as things develop and the relationships change, it does not feel odd out out of place.

Takeshi, the incubus of the work, is very unique in many ways from what an incubus might be expected to be. The aspects of his true society mixed with that of the Japanese one add depth to this character that were unedited and telling. He is an incubus, more or less, and much of his powers as one, and the needs they have, appear. At the same time he is not quite an incubus in other respects that added to his character and made him more interesting.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

This is a lovely and well told story that exists in a place that really so very few stories about succubi or incubi set themselves in. For that alone, it is an engrossing read and I found the story developed well and the characters found purpose. There are some dangling threads of course to wonder about, but overall the story feels complete and telling as well.
