Plot Summary

Dr Thomas Parker, one of Victorian London's foremost men of science, doesn't have any time for tales of the supernatural—and especially not the fevered ramblings of the drunkard who stumbles into his club, talking about his narrow escape from a creature of the night that took the form of a ravishing woman with fiery red eyes. His confidence is his downfall, though, and on his way home he finds himself falling foul of a creature for which science and rational could have no explanation.

Trapped by a beautiful futa succubus who is intent on draining him of his very essence, Parker struggles to find a way to escape—but will he find that the pleasures of the flesh outstrip his Victorian sensibilities, and give himself up to the demands of his futa captor... forever?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 26, 2023

The dark holds both mystery and discovery, though which one encounters is something of a toss of the fates. Learned men simply do not believe in things that go bump in the night of course. But Thomas encounters the impossible late in the evening and becomes entrapped by her. She will have her way, by hook or by crook, for that is her purpose and Thomas’ need.

The work is mainly focused on female domination with a bit of light horror around the edges and a passing futa theme. The storytelling keeps the time period the work is set in very well, the dialogue, the descriptions and the main character’s thoughts never stray from the time and place. It is rather dark in tone, that being a reflection of the succubus of the work and the situation that Thomas is trapped in, having no escape.

The succubus of the story, who is never named save for being called Mistress, has all the earmarks of a creature of evil, tending towards being almost stereotypical in her actions and words. She has a singular need and will do whatever is required in order to seize what she wants. She’s not a seductress, there’s little sensuality, save in passing. Her real power is domination and there is no question that she uses that power on Thomas to bend him to her will and press him to obey.

There’s a hint of mind control used which was well done and I thought told something of the succubus herself. But overall, there’s really nothing we learn about her except she is a futa, she needs to feed from humans and their souls to survive. It would have been nice to learn more about her and as such there are more questions about her left dangling when the story comes to a close.

It’s more a horror story with some erotica than the inverse. The heat is muted for the domination of the main character by the succubus. Being so, the focus turns to the harsh domination rather than being anything really sexual in nature that has sensuality.

Three pitchforks out of five.

The ending works for the overall tone of the story, but being so there’s no question of what the future holds for both characters. Perhaps telling more beyond the entrapment might have brought something more interesting and captivating than things turned out to be.
