Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 9, 2020
The universe loves to play games with wayward souls. For Steven, being cast from heaven is the beginning to a quest for answers. For Orchid, being a succubus means very little when that little spark within her finds Steven irresistible for a reason that neither of them expected.
The work is a complex fantasy adventure with a love story wrapped around the main characters which unfolds as things develop. The complications come in how many characters appear, the threads pulling on both Steven and Orchid, and the battle they face to come to find the answers as to what, exactly is happening around them.
Along the way, the slowly building passion between Steven and orchid is a delight to behold, their coming to terms with love and the complications of it, is really well done. I wish there had been more time spent in their sorting out of their love, it’s a bit rushed towards the end however.
Orchid, the succubus of the story, first appears as being a bit of an odd succubus, she’s not exactly evil, perhaps confused and uncertain might be a good way to explain her personality. As the story plays out and she comes to realize a number of truths, not the least of which is her love of Steven, she become so dearly complicated a character, save for her love, and that delighted me.
Four out of five pitchforks.
As much as I adore Steven and Orchid, and as much as the story is wonderfully told, the work needs another editing pass. There’s too many spelling and grammar mistakes that hurt the story. More so, there’s something odd in the dialogue that needs to be expanded and cleaned up to being the passion and emotion that is missing.
