Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 8, 2025

Lucy feels something calling to her from within a mysterious world she cannot resist. Answering the call, her world is turned towards an incubus she cannot resist, and a fate that she held within herself. Lust is but the first step towards transformation and what comes after is the mystery to be discovered.

The work is a short erotic hot flash with a fantasy adventure theme and a mystery around the edges to be explored. It’s a bit drawn out at times, the story takes some time to find its footing and truly bring the main characters together. The world building is interesting, the characters are as well. But with that said the writing at times lacks passion, the erotica needs more heat, and at times the dialogue just doesn’t work in the moment well.

The incubus of the work, who is never named, isn’t quite stereotypical, there’s aspects to him that are unique and interesting. But he is very dominant in his nature to the point of being a little over the top which is a shame. That aspect of the character leaves a lot to be desired about him, mainly in how everything is about him and Lucy is, for a lot of the story, just expected to follow his lead.

As for Lucy, she’s very much a lost soul in search of answers for most of the story. At the climax of the work, she is transformed into being a succubus through their passions and that transformation is really well told. The shift towards being a seductress I thought worked well and offered a new and telling aspect of her to be explored and I wish it had been.

The story ends in a place which is a little disappointing, mainly in that there’s a suggestion of what is next, but nothing comes of it. That’s not to say it doesn’t end well however. It’s just a bit too abrupt in closing the story and leaving the characters in the aftermath with their questions and futures uncertain and unclear.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The work needs another editing pass for several reasons, mainly in that the dialogue at times reads oddly our out of place. The passions in the moment are not brought to life and leave something to be desired. Further to that, the narrative drifts a lot, loses focus, and really needs to be more focused on the main characters than what is revealed. It’s interesting as a work about succubi and incubi, there are parts that are very good, but it could be so much better still.
